Can anyone explain to me the process of a repack?

We are having one soon and no one seems to know, is it as cut throat as it sounds where the more senior people get the trolleys and everyone else has to fight for the crap?

Obviously not a long server then - because if you were then you wouldn't be concerned about a repick. Looking on the bright side there are exceptions but they should be few and far between. You'd be amazed at how quickly time goes by and before you know it you'll be in the top 50.

Yes, in offices with about five dozen staff that really IS the case.

Because the newbies don't like waiting for their turn - bet they push in at the supermarket and the bus queue...........whereas people with long service have already queued..............is this then yet another legacy of the Thatcher years

Actually, it is not entirely about seniority all the way down - not with P&L and revision.

We have started a repick after almost a year of revision. Some jobs are have been dedicated as 39 hours (majority) some are 32 hours, a handful are 27 and about 3 or 4 are 24 hours including job share.

So what will happen is that it starts with seniority until all full time jobs are filled - there will be just a number of full-timer floaters (don't know about full-timer reserves - we sure need them but they might end up being new guys that have been made up as full timer from part-time).

Then you move on to the 32 hours and so on... Some part-timers especially people on 27 hrs with less than 3 yrs service will definitely have their own walks above the odd number of full-time staff and above relatively senior part-timers of 32 hours.

There is also the possibility of just about to start postie (24hrs) having their own walk.

The one concern is that some 27 hour folks might get their own walks but they end up working 32 hours anyway because the manager will probably ask them to come in early to throw their own walks out when there is pressure/long term absence etc; which is likely most of the time - some have been doing so for years anyway.

Repicks on ability will be a hard thing to implement - what ability?
