What's the rules on a this so called 30min flex? Do we have to do it if we have a good reason?

No.
Flexing should only be by agreement.

The hazy part where RM and the union don't agree is whether the time can be paid out to members first then taken back or whether you should be asked to flex first and then be paid back at a time of your choosing.
They believe that you can go to members on a tuesday and ask them if they want to finish 30 minutes early in return for repaying it on thursday.
Personally i think that's bollocks.

Having seen the Delivery Simulator and the fact that it plans the use of Pay&Mod Flexing from as far as 12 weeks away you have to wonder what "unforseen circumstances" can you have 12 weeks warning of?
The one thing RM seem to be realising is that the only way to make it work is by asking for the flexing indoors,i.e starting 30 mins early.
Asking members to add another 30 mins to a 4hr 30 mins delivery is a non starter.

Not sure anyone would flex 30 mins before they start. Anyone with a bit of sense would say "only if i get it on docket". That simulator is 95% blaming any problems on poor indoor planning. No mention whatsoever of the shite that is georoute and a 4 hr 30 span on georoute in reality takes anything up to 6 hours. Not much chance of getting anything out of simulator when its took by ex doms who are now planners.

If they could start early one day to finish early on another day of their choosing i could see takers.
To be honest i'm not sure where RM are going with the whole flex thing, they've tried it on us once in 5 years and we ended up at the gate, that doesn't exactly make it a very useful resourcing tool really.

I wasn't convinced by the Simulator either, any reference to poor planners and crap tools went down like a lead balloon...so i made sure i brought it up at every opportunity.

The main thing you need to know about this, is that it's got to be done on an individual basis and cannot be done as an office. Different people have different commitments.

In our office at the moment we have a total ban on pressure overtime, we are forced to either flex or cut off prep to get out on time... Is this the same as other offices?

Nope, managers aren't allowed to leave stuff in the office unsorted............maybe a quick e-mail to Moya would be in order
Everything that comes in is due out, everything should be prepped and if you need OT then your manager should be paying it and if you want to leave behind (cut off, hand backs etc.) then your manager should also do that.

I always thaught that flexing was done by mutual agreement, and either way it should be "paid back" in the same week.It should only be done on a voluntary basis and cannot be forced on you nor banked . :dance
I married my wife for her looks, but not the one she gave me when i said i was going to be a postman.

yes - if its a reasonable request and they have sufficient time within their duty. If you don't then the rules regarding overrunning deliveries applies.

Just to make a point, the 30 min "flex" in pay & mod is not the same as flexing up which is where members work paid overtime when traffic is above model week and it's not the same as absorption where members are asked to take extra work inside their contracted daily hours.

The 30 min "flex" in pay & mod is where members agree to work 30 mins more on a particular day in return for 30 mins less on another day.

Simples. ;liar

had a row this morning re flex .
i wanted a grevience form for unequal workloads as people who start early dont do same amount of work as persons doing job properly.they get to finish earlier whereas others are out working beyond finish time.
i wanted everyone to start at proper time and return to office.
i was told i would be doing away with flexability in office doing this.as mgmt were quite happy with people starting and finishing early.
now why did they make our start times later :hmmmm
so i can go in tommorrow and ask for our old start times as i want to finish earlier again.
