In our office we have 28 postmen/women.
Only 4 are allowed a week off at any one time. I think it should be 5.
I would like to know what you think, and what happens in your office. The jobs can be covered by reserves, we have 6 at the moment.

28 posties x max 6 weeks annual leave = 168
Divided by 48 or 50 (depending on your weeks blocked off for xmas) = approx 3.5.

Its 4 weeks all year around, no increase for Half Term, Easter, and Christmas. One extra is allowed during the 6 weeks holiday. Last year was a disaster in our office, it resulted in so many people taking time off sick. At one point we had 45% of the staff off, combined sick leave and annual leave.
After arguing with the manager, he increased it by one. It does not make any sense to me, hence me asking the forum about their experiences.

You have so many people carrying leave over, 6 weeks is not always the case, i personally have 8 weeks for the forth coming year, there was no slots for me to put my annual leave this year.
All last year we had only 3 weeks ,using your formula you can see that was not enough.
You have 5 staff who have been off long term sick, and will carry the leave over, another couple of staff have been allowed to carry some leave over, There is not enough spare capacity.
28x6? it should be more like 28x8 or possibly 28x9. The manager will not listen.
I suspect what is happening is that the manager is trying to meet the budget restrictions imposed on him. He is happy for leave to be carried over for the duration that he is the manager, with staff not taking their annual leave it certainly reduces cost.
He'll leave a mess for some other unsuspecting manager to clean up the mess, in practice what happens is the next manager will come and kick the can down the road.
