Bringing mail back to the office
We're four weeks into our revision. Park and loop shared van duties very big and impossible to deliver on the busy days. We're constantly bringing mail back and sticking back onto our frames as that is what the DOM is telling us to do. Not happy to be taking the mail out in the first place so are there any downloads I can use to put in front of my DOM to back me up when I tell him I won't be able to complete before leaving the office in the morning as his response always is just bring back what you can't deliver. Cheers for any help.

Insist on a instruction before you start prepping up. And then only take enough to last you till your time. Its a managers trick they think if you take it out you will deliver it and no headaches for them

They've received a reasonable instruction, take it all out and bring back anything you are unable to deliver. Frankly I don't care whether they like it or not failing to carry out that instruction is misconduct.

Re: Bringing mail back to the office
That's true but contradictory information like RM insist all mail taken out by the postie will be expected to be delivered will naturally leave people confused. That is also in the agreement.Himaggen wrote:What on earth are you talking about?shepherdess wrote:Insist on a instruction before you start prepping up. I also do not like the idea that single individuals will be approached and given similar instructions and then charged with WD with line managers denying previous 'instructions'.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Take it all out but inform your lino that you think you will not complete and it is likely that you will be bringing some back. You are then covered as you have told them the situation. Personally I never give them any guarantee that I will complete, just in case!(our office has a failed revision)

if they tell you to fetch stuff back.they're supposed to put in writing,we have a folder that they fill in. i wouldn;t rely on a verbal instruction.bit risky.

Re: Bringing mail back to the office
The correct method is that you notify lino when you have finished prepping that you will be unable to complete. Lino should then instruct what to do. If he tells you to take everything out, he should arrange to call you approx 30mins to 1 hour prior to your finish time to ascertain what you are likely to be bringing back and instructions what to do with the overspill. If he tells you to leave mail behind, he should be the judge of what is left. If you disagree and still believe you cannot finish in time then again he should arrange to call you prior to your finish time. If he miscalculates and you finish early (which is very unlikely) then thats jis problem, not yours. Do not under any circumstances attempt to judge yourself what to leave, because you will leave yourself open to wilful delay etc.

Re: Bringing mail back to the office
I have a feeling this is to do with reporting what has failed, if you leave the mail in the office the Dom has to report on DODR what has been left and failed. If you bring it back he doesn't have to report it in the morning as a failure, as it's gone out on delivery. I can see no other reason. When you bring it back you have to re prep it which takes time, so you have to come back earlier(cutting off more) to prep what you bring back
your manager is part of the reason why this business is going down the pan absolutly no manager skills. Ask your rep to ask the Dom to see the DODR report, if he's not reporting failures get your rep to flag it up, this resolving your problem and your Dom getting a kicking.

Re: Bringing mail back to the office
The trouble with that reasoning is that the Manager has to confirm or amend details for the previous day prior to completing a DODR for the next day. Either way they should be reporting it!whatamess!! wrote:I have a feeling this is to do with reporting what has failed, if you leave the mail in the office the Dom has to report on DODR what has been left and failed. Failing to report failures is self defeating as doing so prevents the opportunity of receiving sufficient allocation of resources from the DSM for the forthcoming weeks.

Re: Bringing mail back to the office
But if the tool says the jobs are do able, this is the easier way of a Dom trying to hide the failures rather than reporting them and having a dsm telling him to check people's performance, most doms don't want that fight with opgs.

Delivery Office Daily Report.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Bringing mail back to the office
We're in the same boat. Week 4 of revision starts tomorrow and not looking forward to it. Some of the duty's are far too big. Doesn't help when half the office are covering the problems by not using the LWT trolleys and still coming in early.
