I was told today that we were not allowed to change wheel if we get a flat tyre we have to ring RAC and wait for them to come & do it for us I thought this was a joke but health & safety rep told me its true starting from Monday has anyone else got any info on this ?
You should not be changing wheels on vans as you have not been trained and no training is even available. If you injure yourself in the process your wide open.
Cant change a light bulb either.

we get our DIM to change ours, it's the only way he will get us out on delivery so he does not have to do it because we had to wait for the RAC to do it for us.
Our office is P&L with the Vauxhall vans. Our workplace coach showed everyone how to change a wheel and it is apparently part of the drivers responsibility,
I think a few sectors are looking at having one office dedicated to minor vehicle repairs and training a volunteer up to take care of bulb changes, wingmirror replacing and stuff like that.
I saw figures the other day saying some regions spend on average £280 on each van per year through 'wear and tear' damage. Most sectors have to send vans miles to a workshop so can see why they would want to cut out the costs ferrying brings on top of 2 bodies and vans released each occasion.
It's not just H&S, we stopped years ago as we were told if we changed a tyre and had a crash or some other incident, and it could be proven that we hadn't correctly changed it, we would be held legally responsible by the company for any costs incurred, including 3rd party claims, and would also be dealt with under Conduct Code. They refused to train anyone (cost), so the RAC do it.

My office had someone come down that showed 4 of us how to change a Tyre, we now have a certificate each up that shows who change change them officially, I usually end up doing them as the others won't but I get 30 mins overtime each time.

Trouble is if you change a wheel and damage the van somehow they can and prob WILL sack you.

Bloke in our office had a puncture on a rural in the middle of nowhere,he phoned the office saying the brace was the wrong size for the wheel nuts so he couldn't get them off,he then had to wait over 2 hours till someone could get out to him.
When mechanic arrived he took one look at the wheel and said "Right,let's get these wheel caps off for a start"
