That's about as sensible as Royal Mail charging you for the uniform you wear.

The difference is, I never asked to wear a uniform. They would be asking me to take the van home. Both instigated by them.

No-one is ever forced to take a van home though.
It's a mutual benefit thing,we don't charge for parking and they don't charge for diesel or wear and tear.

I'm already paying for my car so it would only be a little bit of petrol..............and I'd rather pay for that than have a RM van parked in my driveway.

I think over time when Royal Mail look at the amount of money they spend on fuel, they will look at the taking vans home situation. Another cost cutting measure which i'm sure will eventually happen. To go from, for example, 8 vans to running over 30 vans in one hit is a lot of money on fuel. They really won't know until after say a year if its worth it. (Running more vans against the savings on getting rid of 3 packet drivers).

what happens if you are asked to worked overtime but say i cant get in then he says take a van home then? are you in the wrong even though manager has authorised this?
