annual leave

Hi.
I would be interested to know what different systems are in place around the country for picking annual leave, or is there a one size fit's all national agreement.

Ours is crap - first two weeks go on seniority, 2nd two weeks on reverse seniority, remaining weeks on seniority again.
This year there was a 25% reduction in slots available during the school summer holidays. This means that, out of an office of 150, only 45 people can get this time off. In previous years everyone who wanted it managed to get it. Needless to say there are a lot of unhappy bunnies and much chuntering about changing the system. As it says in the Way Forward Agreement, allocation of leave should be "fair"!

Oh, and any leave agreement is down to local agreement

weve about 28 postal workers in our office we operate 4 blocks of 7 postmen picking the leave on a rolling seniority basis ,unfortunately our managers changed andthe new trying to steamroller in the system which is used in his office ,our own systems fine ,we d never get seniority in our office ,tried to propose it a few months ago it was shouted down ,mainly by someone who never goes anywhere on holiday ,

Yes and No.

Using seniority as the sole way to select leave went out with the way forward agreement.

But seniority can still be used as long as its fair. Some units interpreted this as using a rotating system or selecting leave in blocks. As long as a newbie has the same chance as the longest postie of getting at least one of their leave choices any system can be used.

At least thats they way I understand it.

We had ours cut as well leading to a lot of unhappy bunnies.Seems to be a deliberate policy as i've heard of it happening in other offices. Anybody know what's going on here as i can't see any logic behind cutting the number of slots available at the time most people want off. Unless... they're after something, like lapsing
