We are one of the few offices (500+) still to have a revision and so we had to vote on a range of options
to get us down to the 39 hour week.
Originally, we were not allowed the option of finishing 12 minutes earlier and so we held off
from voting until RM & the CWU came to an agreement.
Once the agreement was in place we then held the vote and went for, surprisingly, the 12 minutes finishing earlier.
Our area manager didnt like that answer and said we couldnt have that.
On Monday the CWU at area level or above are having a meeting with RM to find out why our office isnt part
of the national agreement

let them have the 12 min but no revision or you will suffer the same fate as other offices.

We asked for an hour earlier finish on a Tuesday but were told we couldn't have that, so the cynical amongst us know that if they gave us that hour we would take it come what may, but are you really going to clockwatch to 6 mins or 12, RM know we don't and are relying on us not to.

We asked for an hour earlier finish on a Tuesday but were told we couldn't have that, so the cynical amongst us know that if they gave us that hour we would take it come what may, but are you really going to clockwatch to 6 mins or 12, RM know we don't and are relying on us not to.

The problem with an hour earlier finish one day is if that is your day off you end up working that extra hour that week, so you would then need to arrange things so you got your hour back, or claim overtime.

so why do local doms think that the CWU will allow them to bypass their members wishes?

Our office voted for 12 mins off the end of each day. The DOM wanted a 12 mins later start and sent out a letter (badly written and quite threatening) to everyone saying the DSM had told him the time had to come off the start and the only other option was to continue with a 40hr week without getting paid for the extra hour. ADR went to the DSM to ask what he had told our DOM and turned out DOM was lying out his ass (shocker!) and the DSM had told him no such thing. Now our DOM is in the crap and we finish 12 mins earlier :)

Its just not worth the hassle, I've got tired of fighting for the union to do the right thing, I've totally given up on that.

That's right, if it's an early finish one specific day like Tuesday it needs to be 72 minutes earlier finish to average out correctly.
