Park & loop....

Post by alongjourneyhome »

Just wondered if you guys are working to the park & loop plans.

I've found it easier to do bulk packets together first with my co-worker then we just split off & do our old 'walks' to the way the were beforehand using wallet boxes etc... Then whoever is finished first helps each other with the remainder before heading back to the office. I've found this cuts a fair bit of time off as opposed to the looped plans.

Was curious to see if anyone else was doing something similiar to this or had their own methods.

Cheers.

English.... You deliver most parcels by van so you can carry one bag rather than use two on a LWT? :wave

That means it cuts jobs as well. :Applause :Applause

What do you think wll happen the day mail gets stolen from one of the drop boxes you have decided to use?
Do you think managers will say a big thank you for all the time you have saved or do you think they will just hand you both a P45?

Why is it so difficult for people just to do the job properly?

Is this a case of Image Image

I can sympathise if it is because I used to chase every minute. But now job and finish is in, at least in theory, and the drawback is lapsing, I gave up and soon hopefully will others.

Absolute madness. Sorry.

Work the way you are supposed to. also ; you are so vunerable by using old drop boxes.

Do you honestly think that Management don't know what you are doing? But will ignore it as you get the job done. But woe betide you if anything goes wrong.

Can hear it now ' permission was never given to deviate from the planned and agreed process'

We've had P&L for a bout 6 months now, this week they've started phase 3ing the runners, funny as f**k watching them all go garratty at the cheek of the linos making them work to there time. Theres absolutely no point in cutting corners to make time,RM want that time.

Oh my word. Please say thats a joke. Is there any point anyone doing the job properly when we have idiots like this ruining it for us all. :arrrghhh
Do you also come in early before your time?
Do you not bother with you breaks?
Do you throw all your d2d's in on a Monday or even come in on Saturday on your holiday to throw them in for the Monday?

I come in on time & take my breaks, do my d2ds Mon, Weds, Thurs & Fri & it gives me Tues & Sat off doing them and no I would never dream of coming in on my holiday or day off to put in d2ds. Although there are a few in my office who do!!

Or you could delivery as per spec using the mandatory equipment for your assigned walk.

Is the the shift taking you past your contracted finishing time doing the job properly, because planners/managers are typing bovine excrement into their Mystic Meg program instead of real up-to-date data? Shock horror.

Play "the game" by their rules, you decide if you want any o/t or not and let the creative accountants deal with the fallout, killing their false saving budget and saving depot jobs long term.

the van man is supposed to support walking man as he has larger walk doesn,t happen btw
this was endorsed by cwu at local ,area, regional and national level despite my constant arguments.

lets understand theres still a culture of cutting corners to make time - this has been what most of us have done over years and years but we need to understand these days are over.
RM are more obsessed with people working their hours instead of higher productivity by giving a "job and finish" incentive, thats their right as an employer to do, personally I think its a big mistake.
As we all know and the original poster has indicated, doing the job as RM want it done is completely inefficient, but because this is the case we shouldnt be doing things outside of what our employer is asking. If RMs poorly thought out ideas arent working, its not up to us to make them work by going outside of the policy of RM which leaves ourselves at risk if something goes wrong and they can say "why didnt you do the job as we asked?"
I think over time people will start to do the job as RM want it done as they see the incentives gone, such as when a postie rushes around and gets finished early they tend to be sent out to deliver packets or part of another OT walk when returning to the office.

Hans - some areas in West of Scotland have adopted what I believe they call alternative park and loop - but not all.
But I didn't think that was what the original poster was talking about.
He seems to be suggesting that he and his partner have decided to continue with the use of pouch boxes because they find it easier.
Huge difference.

no pouch boxes- old walks, we have mixed the 2 walks.
say we have 2 walks. A & B
I take A1 and he takes A2.... meet up.
i take B1 and he takes B2....
i take A3, he takes A4....
he takes B3, i take B4....
BREAK
he takes B5, i take A5... FINISH...
We move the van as we go taking turns for who gets there first, and whoever drives past a house that has packets, delivers them. We deliver equal. And alternate what we do daily. So we both work the opposites... so every day is different.
Communication and patience is the key...
no-body told us how to do it... that what we learnt to do ourselves... loading the van properly also saves time. And remaining organized stops mistakes.
