I saw on another thread the mention of 'toilet breaks'. Do they exist in RM's world for posties?

I currently do a P&L round where I can only have access to a toilet after about four and a half hours normally, sometimes over five hours. This is in a friendly ESSO garage I deliver to.

It is such a long time to wait. I have had to stop having a cup of tea before I start the round. A couple of times, on severely cold days nature has caught up with me and I've had to ask a lady I've been asking to sign for something if I could use her toilet. Fortunately they were both obliging, had they not have been it could have got messy.

Okay, I've found a couple of 'quiet spots' I can use but what if somebody saw me and complained?

I always understood it was your DOM or Lino's responsibility to ensure there were a sufficient number of places you could go to on such occasions.

Personally, never had a problem as plenty of places. I'm not shy I've asked and used at Hospitals, Churches, Pubs, Clubs, Garages, Shops and houses....although the house call was out of sheer desperation! Always worth looking out for houses where trades are working as they'll usually let you in....or at worst let them pee in a bucket!

You should have a designated place (public loo, supermarket loo) . If not ask your DIM or lino where it is. If they cant give you one you should go back to the office. You cannot rely on friendly Customers, its also very unprofessional to ask customers. Employers have an obligation to supply or give access to toilet facilities for its employees by law .

yes i had my toilet facilities built into my duty under the revision betting shops open between 9.00-9.30.
pubs open between 11.30 12 midday but i do have troble finishing my dutie. and saturdays are a nightmare.

I do a large housing estate that does not have a pub or supermarket. It does has a Housing Association's old folks home with a communal toilet for visitors we can use, however that is within ten minutes of the start of the round.

The round I am paired with is similar but has a garage on the round, however a female postie said she has been refused use of the toilet there. Personally I have no problem and they seem fine. That toilet is over three and a half hours into the duty minimum.

It can get difficult!

If you suffer from a weak bladder try to get a rural duty, no problem then with all the hedges, bushes, etc.

ive been known to climb in the back of the van and contort my body ,and then piss in a bottle , my park and loop partner usually knows what im doing as i hang a pouch on the wing mirror .....coded message

only trouble with using a bottle is that terrible feeling when youve filled the bottle 3 quarters full and know you still have a lot more to come.... nothing worse than overflow !

Trouble is if you need a sh.te in the back of the van the bags smell worse than when they get wet.

Get a hose attach it to your doodaa and put the other end across the front windscreen.....then just go with the flow...both you and the company wins....you get instant relief...and RM save a fortune on screen wash....(ps i am not taking the piss)

Then if it takes 5 10 15 minutes to get to your nearest toilet it must be built into your duty. Health and safety is paramount

problem solved... that would save royal maul a fortune...! only $7.71 they could issue them with uniform... and maybe they could sneak in there that as we can all urinate on the job, there would be no reason for breaks anymore!

lets hope royal mail inteligence doesnt scout this site, we really dont want to give them any ideas now do we...!
