Couple of points from the courier mag

Under the "How we're transforming" page i noticed 2 intersting points. 1 was the modernising operations bit where at the bottom is says "Some units have adapted well. Others have work to do as we need to deliver the savings". Im sure these modernisation changes were not to do with saving but modernising And the 2nd point under the Change for the better where it says to do with the 739 card "GIve people - particularly the elderly - a few minutes to get there". Fair point and one that maybe we should adhere to but when georoute gives you 57 seconds for an attendance call and that includes writing out the 739 can we really wait for a few minutes.

Its all well and good when one works on the same round for years and knows there is an elderly person on the property. But what about customers letting us know that they are actually coming to the door? Why cant some of them just simply say I am looking for my keys instead of getting to the door and then disappearing... And some younger customers cannot be bothered sometimes to come to the door even when you can see them through the window - I have seen teenagers simply ignoring the knocks and ringing of the bell - and when one is frustrated enough, the parents show up...

Yesterday, I had 3 customers in one loop chase after me after writing the card. I was so confident that 2 of them were in (know your customer and all that), so waited and waited, no response then wrote the card. And 2 doors down the customer arrived in the car, i went to him as he was coming down to look for me. The second (within 8 minutes) was a man that worked from home and the same thing happened. When I saw his car go past me, I tried to quickly finish the small mews on the corners but he ran to catch me up - sods law. And my partner was waiting impatiently...

Customers and the old the postman did not knock - I suppose it happens but it must have gone down with P&L and use of vans, however, customer are still too quick to say postmen did not knock or try even when one has spent 3/4 minutes to deliver their mail

The only points my courier gets are me removing the plastic sleeve and it hitting the budgie cage floor,its got crap inside so why not on it.

And for all those who believe that privatisation will be a softly softly take it easy transformation..................that one quote speaks volumes. I'm not a business model expert obviously but there are so many systems to change the way that Royal Mail is organised it beggars belief.

best one i had was specials we were sent out to do, then next day was on the callers desk when in comes an angry punter with a card i'd tried to deliver the previous day.

I saw the card, realised it was mine, let her rant away before i simply said: 'your doorbell you obviously failed to hear on the three occasions i pressed it yesterday plays vivaldi's four seasons'. I don't appreciate being called at best, unprofessional, at worst a liar. Can you sign here please....'

Off she scuttled without another word to the great enjoyment of the rest of the customers in the queue. Brilliant moment.

Hehe, whenever this happens to me, I try and get away really quickly.

To me, it's their punishment. If they have been so ignorant as to not bother to answer the door to me, thinking I can wait there all day, well once I've wrote the 739 card the deal is done, I make every effort to vacate the area asap, get back to my van and clear off.

Don't get me wrong, I do actually like quite a lot of the people I deliver to, but just for those one or two arseholes who think they can keep you waiting 5 minutes while they finish their wank or can't possibly bring themselves to answer the door to you til they've put their makeup on, I just card it after 2 knocks and clear off very quickly.

surely a sackable offence, what if the bloke just shuts the door and refuses to sign for or even acknowledge he has the packet.
