Mumsnet Thread - Posted because I thought it was funny
To think it's no wonder Royal Mail delivery men get bitten by dogs so often.
http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_ ... s-so-often" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
When normal people knock on my door, in a normal way, my dogs do as they've been trained to do and go to their beds.
When the lovely lady from Hermes knocks on my door in a nice, normal way, the dogs go to their beds.
When my Dad knocks on my door, the dogs sense it is him and wait patiently in the hall until I let him upon which they dive at him with gusto.
When Royal Mail knock on my door in the way at only Royal Mail do, I jump so far out my seat I almost hit ceiling, Whippy runs terrified into her crate and Devil Dog decides he must protect the house from the person trying to break down the front door at all costs, including snapping at me when I restrain him to get him into a different room, before they attempt to kick the door in again knock again, which they inevitably do.
I would complain but I have a feeling bad things might start happening to my mail but it is really necessary for them to knock so loud it would wake the dead? Really?! I can't be the only person who has problems with Royal Mail couriers scaring them half to death?

lol... this is dainty grandma knock- tap tap, this is child knock- knock knock....... and this is evil postie knock(boom boom)...stupid c**
what drives me nuts, is you ring the dooorbell, its broke, you knock they dont hear it... you walk off with the packet, they chase you down the road... asking why you didn't ring.... you must apologise.
So you take the tactic of knocking loudly, they come out, furious and ring the doorbell whilst looking at you like your stupid.
Now I do both, and i dont care what time it is or how loud it is... if they came to the door quickly enough it wouldn't be an issue would it...?
some people really are pathetic, i mean a full thread on how loud the postie knocks... come on... what else would they rather us do... tap tap and stand there for 10mins... i dont think so.

I love the responses, too.
I always ring bell, listen for the ringing sound - oh, there is none and then knock on the door, firmly. By the time I have written out a P739 and knocked again, someone comes to the door and says: "Ooh, did you knock? I was just walking past! Lucky to catch you! Doesn't the bell work?"
Somehow I manage to restain myself from the obvious comment about the bell which has not worked for two years
and the fact that actually using ones ears might be helpful - by which time I am in a good frame of mind to bite their f###ing dog!
PS I especially like standing around in the cold, waiting for a door to be opened when it is sub-zero outside, as it has been for the past week.

I'm a loud knocker.
It goes back to the days of getting them up out of bed, especially on saturday.
I don't lose any sleep over it...even if the customers do.

The bigger the knockers, the louder I bang.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

He may have known she was in.Sherpas Rule wrote:Loved this reply in that thread,This particular postmen doesn't like dogs and there was one memorable occasion when he clearly thought I was out because he decided his relationship with the dog would be improved by shouting "Shut the f**k Up you Little Bastard" through the letterbox.
He may not have been shouting at the dog.

They were probably moaning about me. I used to do a good old policemans knock. Got fed up of pressing bells that don't work. A good knock and then wait. Then get out your p739 and give another loud knock, start writing p739 and put through door. Move on to next few houses and get the owner running after me ranting that I didn't knock
I have also had spell in callers where people have claimed the postman didn't knock. I look at card and say actually the postwoman did knock as it was me! They go very quiet then and want to get out as quickly as possible.

I just knock on both door and ring the bell. If they don't like it tough. People with empty porsches should allow us access to it to save time, but sometimes one door open in one side but not the outside :(
