40 hour week changed to 39 hour week...

Had meeting today. Manager told us all from Monday all fulltimers will be on a 39 hour week with the 1 hour banked. Obviously our union rep was against this and then advised us to not vote it in. However no vote was fourthcoming anyway and manager said it will be in from Monday. Part timers get a pay rise apparantly too. Guess this was bought in to get us to vote in favour. Anyway I thought this was against national agreements?

we also had the speil this morning at our DO.

the DIM said he wanted everyone to come in 30 min later on Monday & Tuesday ( after agreeing last week that we would start 12 mins later every day ) but we refused and said we would take out a grievance against him if he did so, we then got onto our Area rep ( our own rep quit a year ago and no one has taken over the mantle as of yet ) about this and within 2 minutes, the DIM's area manager was on the phone saying we could have our 12 minute later start if we all voted for it.

now I know it's not been nationally agreed, but I don't think there is much we can do about it, but it's always nice to win a small battle with the guv'nor's.

you won't get it at the end of your day, it will mean a later start not earlier finish.

To the original statement.I presume that by banking the hour you mean working 40 hours and banking an hour as time in lieu? but isnt this what RoyalMail are refeusing?

Can’t believe I am saying this but You must wait for CWU HQ to advise, do not agree to anything and until then just bang in a disagreement when they (RM) give your office "THEIR" options so you can keep the status quo.

No they cant claim you owe the hour back or bank it for later in the week. The 39 hour week was part of the 2010 agreement. However this should come into play with a
full modernisation revision and thus trigger the £800 payment. If your office has not had the revision (like ours) they are now trying to fast track the 39 hour part. We rejected this vote this morning on the basis that in our area other office’s which have already had the revision have had to fight for 18 months to claim the payment.

We decided accepting any part of the deal now would weaken our hand later on. Not that we don’t fully trust RM of course.

They once said that we could not have the 39 hour week without the revision and now they want it in next week.

I am not sure if they thought we would rip their arm off but i dont trust them.

Dear Colleagues,

We met with Royal Mail today and have identified that they are not prepared to even consider our members being able to bank the time even though we believe that there clearly are instances where banking would be more beneficial. The meeting closed at 3pm this afternoon and there is no resolution. Therefore our previously issued advice on this matter still stands. The indications are that they will impose the Shorter Working Week on Monday if they cannot get a consensus in the office on the options they are putting forward. Any attempt to introduce any change without agreement of the Rep and the members should be met with disagreement. Those disagreements should be forwarded immediately to the Divisional Representative and Outdoor Department.

A more detailed LTB will be issued tomorrow afternoon.

The CWU are opposed to banking hours against workload,that's a no brainer because it would cost jobs,earnings and increase bullying as well as leaving members not knowing from one day to the next how many hours they would be working ,they have never been opposed to fixed banking of contracted hours which many of our attendance patterns rely on already.

Its purely for RMs gain. With a pay rise offered to part timers to hopefully get votes in. Not happening in our office though. We have all stuck together. f**k them. Excuse my language.
