More Hours?

To my knowledge there are approx 40 delivery staff on 39 hour contracts, 3 or 4 on 30 hours & 7 of us on 24 hours in our office. Out of those 7, 2 started over 24 months ago, 3 of us started approx 14 months and the other 2 started just before Xmas.

Since Jan 2012, 3 have left, 2 are long term sick (one really sick and I'll be surprised if he works again), 2 are due to retire in the next few months and one lad moves to another office down south next week.

Unlike many 24 hour contracted people on this board, we rarely get overtime other than the odd 30mins/1hr on Weds & Thurs so we often come home with the basic wage.

In your opinion/experience is it likely that any of us on 24 hours inparticular, will get any increase in hours or as we seem to be coping irrespective of who and how many leave, is it never going to happen, is it just a waiting game?

They will probably just make you absorb it because apparently you can do more work without it taking extra time. It is what happened at our office, people have left, and others are sick, yet no new staff have come in, they are just giving out overtime to get eveything covered. Collection staff having to come in and do rounds before going off on collections,

You might get a raise in hours but if you all seem to be coping they will just overtime what isnt getting done. That is in my experience albeit limited.

I overheard a manager the other day say there are barely enough full timers to get the part-timers walks thrown off. The most recent newbie is on 24 hours and the DO is recruiting for 24 hours at the moment. And 24 hours is a 10am start!!!
