Recruitment is open from 21 January for the next round of training academies for champions (Ms2) and champion supports (Ms4). Applications close on 4 February.

Academies

The academies give candidates 10 weeks of WCM training through a mix of classroom learning and practical training at a site that is already using WCM techniques. Once qualified, they will then be responsible for introducing WCM in delivery offices in their allocated sector.

Leon Aikman completed the training in September and is now WCM champion for the CV postcode sector in Coventry and Rugby.

He says: ‘Before the academy, I was nearing the end of my graduate placement with the Midlands indoor working methods team. I applied for the WCM champion role because I have seen what WCM has done for units, and particularly the dramatic impact it can have on involving employees, and I wanted to bring those benefits to this sector.

‘The academy gave me a great insight into the basics of WCM, and was particularly effective in getting an understanding of the Safety and Workplace Organisation pillars. It also helped me to meet people and share information for the benefit of the whole sector.’

Who the hell speaks like this? Oh yeah, Graduate Recruits who know all the theory but none of the practical side of the job and whose man management skills are usually non existant.

This will expose poor managers even more. Royal Mail are ploughing fortunes into this WCM s**t and lazy managers WILL be expected to work alongside rep's, OPG's and their designated champions to make this work. They'll have to sell it to staff first as full engagement is priority to make it work. We all know how much faith and trust we've got with local management.....

I see myself as a great believer in WCM, it is definitely the way forward, it would be a marvellous achievement to become known as the WCM Champion - just like when I was made milk monitor at primary school since when I have never looked back. This would be the pinnacle to my long and varied career - please vote for me.................is it an election?
