Office relocation....how far?

Does any one know the furthest distance that a delivery office has been absorbed into another unit? Would over 20 miles be uncommon? In units where staff take a van home with them at the end of the shift what sort of distance do RM allow from last call to driver's home? Any hard and fast rules on any of this?

We have recently absorbed an office from 6 miles away and we are now allowed to take our vans home.
The only problem with going straight home from your last delivery point would be that you would still have any 739 items with you and, a pda and maybe collection keys.
Not sure if you would be allowed to keep any of these items in your van at your house overnight or in your house a defo no no i would say.

So would I because the PDA would need to be charged up and the callers stuff collectable by the customer - as for the distance, what would it matter because the vehicle and fuel would be RMs.

3. Under this retained vehicle scheme Royal Mail has an obligation to follow HMRC and Group Taxation guidelines with regard to monitoring drivers “home to start / end of work” mileage

4. This will involve drivers declaring relevant distances and managers verifying 1) that these distances are reasonable and 2) are not exceeded without good cause and permission

5. Where “home to start / end of work” mileage is significantly greater than the typical working mileage of a vehicle each day, Regional Fleet & Asset Managers (or equivalent) should consider viability under the scheme and directly confirm their agreement for each case

Hmmm ok,
so 739s, collection keys, PDAs etc have to return to the new office
So any duty planned would be from door to door?

You do realise that there could be an income tax liability for having a company vehicle to travel to and from work ?

What about insurance, do RM have it insured to be left on your drive, outside your house at night, instead of locked in secure compound, are RM paying you extra to look after the van over evenings and weekends, who is responsible if the van is stolen and used in a Post Office Robbery etc, etc.

Their van won't be parked on my drive! It'll be out on the street where I couldn't care less what happens to it!

That's because it's not true.
It's only if the vehicle is used for personal use that tax is liable and if you do that you wont have to worry about income tax for much longer.
