Half a day off sick?

After being at work for 4hrs, I feel unwell and go home but return to work the next day having recovered.
Does that count as a sick absence and recorded on my sick record?

No it's a part day absence.
As long as you attend for 1 hour it should not normally be counted in the attendance procedure.
The only exception is if you have been warned in writing following previous part day absences that future part day absences will count.

Sorry but royal mail now count this as a whole day as sick it happened to me a few years ago.!

It still is the trigger that pulls the procedure and can be included if it is not an accident on duty or if found at fault for that accident royal mail now has a policy of cutting all accidents into incidents finding fault so they are not at fault.! A blame culture where only the blame can be apportioned without repercussions upon royal mail it's self this to me is an outrage in this day to royal mail every accident/incident is always the post/persons fault never the managers as they conduct the investigation themselves to hide the evidence. Thanks for the replies. @k979aaa, I'm wondering if you returned back to work the next day? It could be that your may have had an unscrupulous manager, who was unaware of the guidelines.

Went in on a Stage 1 warning with a colleague who'd triggered the procedure by hitting 14 days off. One of his absences was for 3 days of which the first day he went home sick after doing 3 hours in work. I argued that was a part absence which the manager agreed in the interview and said he would amend, this would take him to 13 days off, thus not triggering a Stage 1. The manager has this week given the letter issuing the Stage 1, stating that Royal Mails policy is anything less than a half days work would be counted as a full days sick. Worth a grievance ?

Not 100% but i'm sure somewhere,i think it's on here,it states that even though the 1st day is technically a half day if you carry on the sick as in this case it counts as a full day as you've carried on being sick.

Absolutely worth a grievance. What did the interview notes say, did it represent what was said in the interview? Don't sign anything if the interview notes are incorrect. If the record is incorrect then that in itself is worth a grievance if they are refusing to change it. There are only two types of absences, part day or full day. If attendance is more than 1 hour then it's a part day, less than 1 hour it's a full day.
