Why do RM insist they are leader's in H&S issues. In this weather, why do they not supply vans etc with the correct tools? We should have snow socks, winter tyres, snow shovels, blankets. That's to name a few. I know people in other companies who are supplied with these. Oh but that I suppose this will affect management bonuses(who cares if we have problems).

Your offices don't have all those things My office has lots of winter stuff............no snow but plenty of stuff to deal with it

They cant even provide staff with uniform that has worn out ,they cant even maintain a fleet of working veichles that are safe to drive ,let alone ROAD LEGAL.

So why should they worry about winter stuff !

So what's the score Saturday in the snow, we have longs and shorts so 7 1/2 hour day. Now I've been in the business a long time and will be heading back to base regardless of how much mail is left when my time is up. Following procedure of course.

Not many of us left though and the newbies are made to feel obliged to get rid of as much mail as they can by staying out in the cold 'till hyperthermia sets in and long after the sun goes down.
Hence us old boys are made to feel very uncomfortable.

What will you be doing? I think I can anticipate the replies.

IF we are sent out I will only be delivering where I feel it is safe to do so. I'll tell the 'manager' before I go out so he has nothing on me.
Do NOT take ANY risks as if you slip and hurt yourself it will be your fault for taking a risk. That's how this company works.

Just do what you can. Keep it simple and when you have had enough return to the office saying its not safe.

Wet/Snowy slate. much worse. very dodgy.
Wet/Snowy "decking"....Totally lethal, as I almost found out today on unfamiliar round...

More snow last night, light dusting which fell on the frozen snow and ice from the other day.
Gonna be Very "interesting" trying to deliver post, packets, parcels in this!

Never been issued with any sort of snow/ice grips thingys...so gonna ask for some for today.
I'll see what response I get...

A neighbouring office didnt go out on delivery because the DOM said

Some kind of computer programme, for fooks sake cant any manager make a decision??

Got my grips for boots things. Told NOT to use em when yer driving.
So...You gotta take em off/put em back on each time you drive the van???
Puuuurrrrlllllleeeeaaaasseeee...Could take all day doing 1/2 a delivery.

Lack of equipment is down to managers not ordering it in time, we had things like spikeys delivered to our office last September, saying that the spikeys are next to useless, nowhere near as good as chains.

We also had salt, but nothing to deliver it with, oh and they forgot the shovels, never heard of wheel socks.
