No company footwear

I've been with R M since 2nd January 2013.

I've had all of my uniform delivered, including the sun hat, apart from footwear.

What is the situation if, out on my round I slip and injure myself in my own boots?

Okay thanks for that. I have to say not what I was expecting, I was waiting for something along the lines of ............... It would be my fault for some strange reason.

I got my uniform then boots came about 2 weeks later, Only had them a week so far (cat trainers) theyre not upto much tbh

Keep on to them,the managers have a lot to do and you cannot expect them to switch ebay and youtube off to order you some footwear.No seriousley do keep on to them.

No it's not.
Health&Safety is as much about personal responsibility as company responsibility.

Until you are supplied with RM boots/shoes you are expected to provide your own suitable footwear,if you do so and fall the footwear is not a contributory factor,if you don't wear suitable footwear then you will obviously be at fault.

If you turn up in unsuitable footwear you should be sent home to change.

The only circumstances where RM would be liable would be if you turned up in unsuitable footwear,made it clear to your manager the footwear was unsuitable,were told to go out on delivery despite wearing unsuitable footwear,refused to go out on delivery and were then threatened with disciplinary action if you did not go out on delivery thereby (kind of)forcing you to commit an unsafe act.
Even that would be shaky.

I wear a pair of ECCO walking boots.

I rang the uniform help line around the 8th/9th January after my uniform arrived but no footwear and was told it was outstanding and will be with me shortly.

As I still hadn't heard anything, I rang again this afternoon and was told footwear had NOT been ordered for me and it was not outstanding!

It has now been ordered and the boots should be with me in three days or so.

I have CAT Trainers that have split along the seams on both of them , they are sh1t in wet weather and not fit for purpose

Why did you not order another pair of RM footwear before they split

I rang the uniform help line around the 8th/9th January after my uniform arrived but no footwear and was told it was outstanding and will be with me shortly.

As I still hadn't heard anything, I rang again this afternoon and was told footwear had NOT been ordered for me and it was not outstanding!

It has now been ordered and the boots should be with me in three days or so.

Often takes 2-3 weeks for orders to arrive for staff who've been here donkey's. New starters will get the basics only until they've been here a while. Just in case they leave, which is understandable.

If you can, get a pair of the Magnum safety boots. Take a little while to wear in, but bloody great once they do. And wear the spikeys to cover yourself. Some divs in our place won't because 'they don't like them' Even though they make the job a lot safer and you're covered in case of a slip

I was surprised I was able to order my uniform straightaway, I thought it was because I have a permanent contract.

No idea what they will send, I wasn't given a choice. I know there are some boots on trial that I've put my name down for in the office.

Yes, you can't be too careful, I rang the Drs yesterday to make an appointment - the receptionist asked what was wrong and I said nothing yet but something could happen

Straight in to a permanent contract?! Hats off to you mate. Hasn't been one of those at ours for three years at least. Half of the managers here are still on rolling temp contracts.

Spikeys are the things you attach to the bottom of your shoes to get some grip on the ice and snow. The ones we've been issued here are very effective. I don't go out without them if there's even a hint of snow. Ask you manager for them tomw and if they can't provide them ,then don't go out if you think it's unsafe
