Can anyone help , i am 49 and about to be given ihr ,i have 15 years service all pensionable and transfered 12 years pension from
my previous employer my question is this once they have given me ihr is there anyway i can get some of my pension or do they freeze it.

Normally they wait until you are sixty however I took IHR on 28th Sept 2012 and I was 60 on 19th December 2012 so I was OK,the pensions dept told me verbally over the phone that because I was leaving on IHR then I would be able to claim some of my pension before reaching sixty.As there was only 3 months between me leaving and me reaching 60,I decided to wait until it all kicked in.

Give them a ring when you have your leaving date although your manager should also contact them once you have signed the form agreeing to IHR.

well i feel stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea really i need a knee replacement but because of my age they tell me they dont want to do it so no one can tell if i will work again ,i cant walk without crutches so i will struggle to find a job.

Why do they not want to do it,I'm having a knee replacement in March and as I previously said I'm now 60 and I will be looking to return to work albeit part-time when I'm able.

Why do they not want to do it,I'm having a knee replacement in March and as I previously said I'm now 60 and I will be looking to return to work albeit part-time when I'm able.

consultant said at 49 your too young has they only last ten to 15 years ,i am getting really fed up now not worked since september due to being on morphine patches and crutches atos say i cant go back on light duties as long as i am on cruches and morphine

they done my right one at 52 and my left one 3 months ago aged 53. i was told if i didnt get it done i would not be able to continue doing my job. i was in pain and needed to keep my job so it was a straight forward decision. they are reluctant to do it only if they think it is not absolutely neccessary for surgery. only if you definately need it,,,,.i.e. grade 4 arthritis ( the final stage of the degeneration of the joint). if you are at 2 or 3 then they say intense physio for 2. or pain management(strong painkillers) for grade 3. if as you say you cannot walk without crutches, then its not rocket science that you are grade 4. in which case its total knee replacement. they do last about 10 to 15 years but it depends on how much it is used after surgery. if you are a delivery posty you probably wont even get ten yrs. its not the joint itself but the high density plastic cartilage that wears away. the actual joint is cobalt chrome so should last til you pop your clogs. a revision surgery is comon in people who have had it done.,,,,,,,i cant see why they will not do it if you are grade 4.
