Overtime Pay rate.

In our office now due to cutbacks ,the only way the office can run almost normal is with overtime.

Now we live in hard times so people should be fighting for overtime,but the reverse is true .

The overtime rate especialy over 10 hours is appaling,yet are RM are prepared to pay £100's of pounds per hour ,to use Management speak to use low calibbere agencey staff from Eastern Europe with little command if any of English and a ratio of 4-1 Agencey worker doing 1 RM person job.

If RM increaed its overtime pay more ,their would be a substantial more amount of people willing to do overtime and you would have quality staff doing a good job,with substantial cost savings against using Agencey,or is this to simplistic for RM to do .

Why waist substaintial amounts of money on something that is not delivering anywhere near like it should .

My attitude to overtime is this - i believe we should be paid a higher rate for ot. Time and a half would seem fair. Therefore, whatever i claim i will agree in advance that it will take me 50% longer. If it takes me an hour i will claim an hour 30 minutes etc etc.

Dont want to pay me that, then go see another member of staff, simple as. The only time i dont do that is if i work my day off (very rarely) where i will just claim the normal shift rate.

With unemployment being so high instead of looking for someone to work overtime maybe Royal Mail should employ more staff
