In our office we split our break 20/20 so we have a set time of 8:10 for a 20 min break can anyone tell me what is the point in having a 20 min break in the office when you have only been working an hour and a half? and then have to work 5 or so hours without a break.
I personally work through that break time and have 10 mins sit down about half way round delivery and then 10 mins say when I have finished before unloading my stuff although depends on how heavy the day is sometimes the other 10 mins will be out on delivery too. I constantly get told off by the union rep for working through my break but he don't get it that I never work though it I just take it at another time. I have never worked through my break unless I'm paid for it so what's the problem?

Anyone else had any run ins with their union rep over break times?

I just don't want a break after being at work an hour and a half!

The problem is many people don't and won't take their break.
It is a legal requirement to schedule the break.
If you schedule it immediately prior to dispatch, people just leave early so you have to schedule it even earlier.
People want to finish earlier, so to accomodate them you split it 20/20.

You end up with a sorry compromise because too many people are still obsessed with getting finished before their contracted time.

Rather than have it after 1 and a half hours after coming in , my partner and I have our 20 min break in the canteen after we have bagged up and the van loaded which is about roughly 3 hours after start time .
Only problem we get is that the Lino tries it on looking at his watch during our 20 min break , but we just ignore him

We like to cut off 20 minutes earlier

As a part timer on 30 hours, our break is scheduled at 9:45, only 45 minutes after we start! We get 20 minutes then the other 10 minutes is scheduled at the end of the shift! I can't see how that complies with the working time regulations.
