Resign starts this week. Seniority question?

We are having a resign start this week.

Although according to our local rep, the staff on 36 hours a week (only 2 of them with 6 to 7yrs service) will be moved above the people on 32hr contracts who have been there longer (10+ years service).
Is this correct, most people i speak to say no way, as seniority is seniority. But our local rep and area rep seem to say that contractual hours goes above seniority.

Is this the case? its a first for me and seems another shot at removing our seniority. i.e. if i got a transfer from another office who did 40 hour contract with 10 years service, i could jump above someone on 40year service with a 39hour contract? surely this shouldnt be?

Seniority is Seniority as you say.
If you can't get no joy locally raise the issue with your Branch or Div Reps

It depends what you want - would RM be willing to let everyone apply for the positions with more hours, knowing that they can't reduce the hours of the ones with low seniority but greater hours.

A for instance 10 FT positions within the office and 8 are the most senior - 2 are junior to other staff. If you allow the staff senior to the 2 to pick the FT duties ahead of them then you will have 12 people on FT hours but only 10 FT positions. Would Royal Mail really allow that - I doubt it. If the 2 junior staff decide to reduce their hours voluntarily then they pick in the normal seniority order.

Now in a situation where there are no more 36 hour duties, or FT duties (or they did not want to increase their hours) then their seniority would revert back to the absolute one and they would pick in their seniority order of the 32 hour members, but they would not reduce their hours at the end of the repick.

My answer is a little simplistic and there are other kinks but hopefully you get the general idea. RM don't want more people on certain contracts than they absolutely have to, and the CWU don't want people to lose hours compulsory, this is how they get round that square.

No because 39/40 hour contracts are the same contract we are just in a transition period, both are being paid the same, therefore seniority does not change.

We are finalizing our revision and should be starting our repick next week.
We also had the exact same problem. On Tuesday of last week the manager doing the revision stated that the repick would be done according to contracts.
So in other words it would be:

1: Full time contracts in seniority order.
2: Part time contracts in seniority order, after the full time contracts have picked theres.
This was apparently decided by HR !

This left a huge problem. The full timers would either pick there own duties or pick the available full time positions and the part timers picked what was left.

I knew this was unfair because the part timers, including those who had more seniority than some of the full timers stood no chance of increasing there contracts to a full time contract.

All this was over ruled the following day when higher management and the area union reps came in to have there final discussion and question time.
Not exactly a good start to our revision, being told one thing one day for it to be changed the next day !!

But my point is, ALL 3 of the union reps who were at the meeting all said doing it the way HR said it was against ALL the agreements and against the seniority rule.

we're in the middle of another revision and the re-sign has started. The DOM wants the last 10 duties to be pulled for P/Timers as there won't be enough indoor work to make those duties F/T. Can he do that?
