I have been almost 3 years now as a full time temp. i started in feb 2010. i was made up to fulltime because it was a driving duty which i applied for and got the duty.after i started we then had a desktop revision 6 months later which they made several others up to full time temps,. ive been asking the union and managers but neither seem to want to do anything about it. we recently had 3 other staff who were made to perm after being tempory for 2 years. it was been almost 3 years now with me. our delivery methods revision is soon and i kinda need to knwo where i am, and if i should be made to perm. ive been reading the national agreement between royal mail and the union and as i understand it it def states that temp contracts shouldnt last more than 2 years, like for the other guys in our office who were made perm. whats quite worrying is that all the driving dutys will be gone, so that leaves me with nothing apparently, according to my manager. all the walks are staying the same and there wont be a repick for 6 months so i guess ill be spare for 6 months as us drivers have been told there is nothing for us to go onto. it is a compelte farce. just a couple months away and we knwo nothing. anyway, when i spoke to my manager about my contract he said it should be made perm, but he is unwilling to take it any further and argue the toss with his boss's. he says just speak to the union rep, although i did but again hes telling me to just wait and see till the revision.
i wouldnt have a problem losing hours, but since us drivers have no duties to go onto after they take away the driving duties, it measn the people on the walks will keep their current hours until the repick, where as ive bene told i might not, which i just think is totaly unfair. i dont want to complain or put in a greivance, but i dont knwo what to do. should i contact HR, or put it in writing and hand it to my manager. thanks for any advice.

If the van duties are going because of a revision then that constitutes major change hence full office repick and walk are picked on seniority. And from what you say you have seniority on some of the staff ie longer service

There is an agreement but RM are not sticking to it. If you rep is not willing to do anything then find out who your ADR (Area Delivery Rep) is and contact them to see if they will do anything.
However, your rep, may be aware that as IIRC Dingo has posted there are moves afoot to make all 2+ year temps permanent, he may waiting to see whats happening there but has not communicated it to you very well. The move from temp 2+ years to permanent may be tied part to each revision.
Still you are entitled to go to the ADR if you are in the Union and ask for their advice. He may ask you to go back to your own rep, but just explain that you have and any help would be appreciated.

Get in touch with HR a few guys at our office went through the same as your situation they were being messed about at the office once they got in touch with HR it was a different story there was a full time permanent contract waiting for them to sign but the DOM was holding it back until the revision so that he could cut their hours back take it further don't just sit on this move it out of the office you might be in the same situation but you will get a better picture on it good luck
