are 1 in 4 saturdays being stopped?
i was talking to the assistant dom at my return to work interview, anyways the subject of 1 in 4 saturdays came up, to which he said we were lucky we were one of the first offices to complete the revisions and opt for this format, because any offices that are about to start their revisions or are in progress will NOT have this option. he says royal mail have withdrawn this work pattern because it doesnt work or it is causing too many problems. resourcing being the biggest problem.?? i argued they cant stop it because its in the bt2010 agreement. he said well i can assure you its not happening at other offices. can anyone confirm if this is ballcocks.

That national agreement allows for 1 in 4 Saturdays there is no change to this. Your Manager is wrong and needs to be told no menu of option and no revison.

Re: are 1 in 4 saturdays being stopped?
Not all offices got or will get 1 in 4 saturdays for various reasons.
Some offices decided against it under the threat of job losses or an increase in the part-time ratio...that was a lie.
Some followed bad advice from Area/Branch,some Areas promoted their own agenda above the members aspirations....pretty disgusting in my opinion.
Some were under the mistaken belief that it automatically meant longer days or different attendance patterns and didn't fancy it....it didn't.
Some were bullied out of it by management....go figure.
Some didn't even get a say....or a vote....work that one out.
There are a couple of common threads running through all of the reasons, lack of knowledge, poor representation at some level or both.

Re: are 1 in 4 saturdays being stopped?
It seems that the area managers,(and those above), are dictating,(yes dictating), what the members want. The fact of the matter is is that the "minimum of 1 in 4" means an extra cost to the business. There is a letter on this site strictly stating that "budgets will not dictate revisions". The letter is from a senior manager to Dave Ward. (Probably why this letter is on the site, and the idea is for reps to print this off and shove it under the DOM's nose).
Line managers also try to dictate patterns as whatever we pick,is what hours they will have to work. Tough! (See your CMA rep! You bullying w*****s!)

From what I read and heard this is one of the main points that the bristol office at SEDO are striking about.
They have 1 in 4 after the revision and now the management want to go to 1 in 6.

It is , they 9 day fortnights from the previous revison and quite rightly want them keep them when the new revion comes in.redissue wrote:From what I read and heard this is one of the main points that the bristol office at SEDO are striking about.

Of course Royal Mail do not like improved attendances , they mean longer days and some managers dont seem to understand them espeically if you have a mix of attendance patterns in the office. However the menu of options are within the the national agreement and all members should have the opportunity to vote on the survey and have the option of less saturdays.
Remember Royal Mail is an employer who used to like having a 6 day delivery force which only ended for the majority of delivery staff 10 years ago.

if some offices are being refused the new options, then surely dont go ahead with any revisions. invoke the status quo,,,,,3 and a half hour delivery.

Re: are 1 in 4 saturdays being stopped?
No I dont believe they are being stopped. In our office though that, and every other option other than the status quo of 1 in 6 have been made so toxic, with the assistance of our union rep I might add, that any vote will be a formality.
Reasons for this are:
- job losses
- part timers NEVER getting a Saturday off
- "only" means an additional 4 Saturdays per year off (for full time staff)
So basically we are being manipulated into voting for working the same amount of Saturdays, while gaining nothing other than baving to work a longer Saturday! As it stands, our full-time part-time split is around 50/50 so with the part timers never getting a Saturday off they have basically ensured the vote will go the way they want it to.

Re: are 1 in 4 saturdays being stopped?
Our office gets every other saturday but we part timers on temp contracts (although just completed 2 years service) have to work every saturday although when i started 2 years ago the contract I agreed to was on a rotating day off basis, so got 1 in every six saturdays off. All full timers get every other every other Saturday off, plus a long weekend once a month which inludes a monday as well. They got me and few other long term temps working sat, monday, wednesday and either thurs or fri. Where is the fairness in that, my wife is a manager and keeps telling me that I am being treated unfairly and discriminated against .Can anyone advise?

Yes. You got screwed by a bunch of tossers but since i take it the duty patterns were voted for you "agreed" to it so legally as well as morally you're screwed.superlufc wrote:Can anyone advise?
