Dodgy Knees :(

Looks like my knees are going the way of many other posties!
Last winter they were achy out on delivery but felt fine after work. During the summer not too bad. But these last month or more they are achy, clicky and I can barely bend down let alone kneel!! Curse those letter boxes right at ground level!

Got an appointment with the physio next week. Is that likely to sort it out or are there other things I can try as well?

Had a knee op 18 months ago, not brill, but wear a support, I find if knee is warm, helps me get through the day. When I leave work I remove it.

3 hrs max, that's what the outdoor element of our job should be.
Having us walk anything up to 8 miles a day, EVERY DAY, will ensure employee's health is seriously impaired.
The human body simply isn't built to take the sort of punishment, that Royal Mail routinely inflicts on it's delivery staff.

If only. I meant the knee support, but would like a bionic leg, could work harder and longer. Perhaps RM can look into that.

depends on what is wrong with your knees. if its arthritis then physio will not repair it. i had physio for 10 weeks before they decided i needed surgery. arthroscopy first to shave some of the cartilage away to see if it can help. (it normally doesnt). it normally degenerates to grade 4 arthritis after time, pretty quickly if you are still doing deliveries. only option open to you then is TKR. ive had both mine done just went back to work on 8th jan. been off since sept 29th. light duties for a few month to ease me back in and to see if i can cope back on the front line. think it,ll be flat terrain duty.

8 miles? I wish!!!!! Its 11.5 on our duties by the time were done !!!!

Ouch!!

I used to have about 10 blocks of flats and a load of other houses (bout 100) with lots of steps on them on my old walk. My knees and achilles are still sore now.

I had bad knees - was promised physio for other a year , I kept asking dim , oh yes I'll get you appointment etc etc - didn't want to spend the budget !

ive got a knee problem and see the nhs physio.

problem is they are saying the knee cap needs to align itself again by grinding a new groove.
so when i excercise i always get worse issues.

now my backs got arthritis !!!!

soon its going to be no stairs and no weight(at all)

11.5 miles a day, EVERY DAY, you're knees won't take that kind of punishment for much longer.
8 miles are dooming mine with each passing day, and now I am looking to survive each month, let alone each year, in this stinking job.
