hi does any one know if you have to any training/ test to drive a transit van on delivery.

Yes you have to have a driving assessment before you drive for royal mail (any size vehicle).

As part of our Delivery modernisation, in response to the growing number of parcels that we need to deliver, we are introducing additional vehicles (CDVs) to our fleet and phasing out previous cycle and foot based Delivery routes. As a result of this we are creating a number of new RM drivers as colleagues convert to a vehicle based delivery. In the past any new RM driver would have undergone changeover training, typically 45 minutes in duration, , but we have since September 2012 now changed this so that all new drivers are required to undergo full Primary Driver Training with a duration of 3.5 hours and a mix of theory and practical driving time. This is another significant investment in our people geared to contributing towards our overall drive to continuously drive down accidents and associated impacts on our people of equipment.

Yes you have to have a driving assessment before you drive for royal mail (any size vehicle).

You have to do the assessment in a vehicle at least as big as the one you will drive. ie if you take assessment in a Corsa, you cannot use a Transit. However, in a rare case of good sense, most managers will arrange assessments in the largest likely vehicle.

The manager would/should be in big trouble,i'm not 100% on the legality of what would happen if he had an accident while driving the van.
I would 'guess' that as they are untrained they would be uninsured.

I do know though that a traffic manager s**t himself when he found out a couple of our guys,and a manager had not had a change over and they were not allowed to drive until they had one.

You now know to tell him to refuse.

there are loads of people in our office had no conversions to transit vans ect and drive them every day
