HCT packet rule

Can someone please clarify the rule for HCT users giving packets to driver? I understand anything shoebox size and over yet I've had shoebox size items given back to me on many occassions.

Also, what happens if you can't fit all your packets in the HCT? Today I filled mine with all the mail and packets, also filled the drawer underneath as well but still had 30+ packets left. DOM wasn't happy I had packets that I couldn't take and told me to remove some of the mail And a driver would bring it to me later, which I answered that what I had would take me over my time anyway.

Put what you can up to the weight limit in the HTC,the mail and relevant packets,bag up the rest,let the screws manage that.

Don't forget that if you're out of site of the trolley for x mins (can't remember how long) then you have to remove everything from the trolley and take it with you, so you need to take that into account

The HCT MK2 has a lockable drawer underneath. It can take 8kg of mail/packets.
For the old and infirm like myself it is completely useless as you have to get down on your hands and knees to try and access it. As a design feature it is completely stupid.
That said, the MK2 is much better than the scabby HCTs I've seen in use on the streets of London.

If you are delivering in a hilly area, you should not be filling the HCT upto the maximum 104Kg/125Kg gross weight for Mk1 and Mk2s respectively, you should only be adding 40Kg of mail if memory serves me rightly (75Kg gross for a Mk1).

Use the walk's allocated drop bag points to keep the HCT light and thereby save your energy (and body long term), as you should be pushing the trolley everywhere, if locked in a "high risk" zone all mail must be removed from the trolley if you leave it out of sight for >2 minutes.

The "rule" about oversize/overweight packets going to a van driver changes with the direction the wind blows, one day its everything must go out in the HCT, other days we are told we can go wild with offloading packets if we have silly amounts of attendence calls. Usually it is "shoe box" rule, I normally do anything >2Kg and >~30x20x10cm.

The whole point of HCTs is to take weight off the shoulder, you should not be taking a pouch out with you, yet I am surrounded by mugs who break SSOW rules and save the managers a fortune by delivering quicker while leaving full HCT locked up out of sight for well oer 2 minutes. I on the other hand choose to do overtime or finish around my contract time, doing the job as per spec, for which the walk was supposed to be designed.

Packet quantities have gone through the roof in the last 12 months, I can now fill my HCT twice over on an average day, a couple of years back pre-revision that would only happen during Xmas pressure (now it is twice over with ~25% of the walk removed).

in our office the hct rounds have it cushy no trackers,, no specials no o/s packets, very sought after duties by some , i love my park and loop "jobby" though

This is so gonna hit the fan re. IB, security and colleagues 'trying to do the right thing' by their customers (remembering that the customer is actually the sender not the person or company that tips you at Christmas.. ).
