Just a quick question for the wise ones on here.
I've recently signed for a five day float duty but am presently being shifted to cover other duties every whip and flip including on the next weeks schedules. Now please correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't this have to be by agreement unless its a problem on the day? I'm not getting a chance to get the hang of my new duties and it does just seem that it's the easiest solution to shift myself and other float cover bods rather than use those without duties. Thanks in advance.

Re: operational reasons clarification
If you have signed for that duty that is your shift I was a floater for a few years and they tried puting me on other shifts cause someone had been asked to work there day off and I point blank refused to. If someone wants to work there day off then they can do the other duty why should the floater be moved do you think if you said I'm working my day off so take the regular guy off his shift cause I want to that duty no chance of that happening so why should it happen to you. Its your shift your not the spare man

Of course it is the easiest solution for a manager.colintres wrote: and it does just seem that it's the easiest solution to shift myself and other float cover bods rather than use those without duties.
But worse than the manager is the wanky colleagues who collude with him.
If you work your day off - you are the reserve.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Soddin' managers will walk all over you.. As a P/T I took it with bad grace for years, every Saturday I went in stressed I was going to be screwed on a round (full-time) I'd never done whilst someone worked their day-off on my round.. Where the f*ck did they get off treating people like that (those working their day-off would be the favourites buying the dom a pint at the golf club that afternoon - bastards).
Did anyone say anything? No, not one 'colleague' stood-up and said "That's not right".

Thanks for the responses. My problem isn't even people working there days off from time to time. They're scheduling me to do other duties and using reserves who don't have duties to cover what I am supposed to be doing. Worse thing is some of the reserves know the duties that I am being moved to, it's really winding me up. I'm going to try banging my head against a wall later and talk some sense into them, wish me luck

colintres - Just say NO.
It doesn't matter if you're starting later than those they've bought in, whatever.. I know, I know, most people don't like to 'rock-the-boat' but it's sheer blatant bollox..
Like I've said before, 'Where do they get-off treating people like this?'
.. and then 'management' act all surprised when I'm one of the few actively striking (on the picket 'line', rather than 'not in attendance') ...
.. them "Why?", Me " Because I can
" 'nuff said.
