I rarely see anyone in 4 - 4.5 hours each day, apart from when I might find someone in to sign for a recorded/special. I can't see that to maintain a delivery to every house every day is tenable, even though that means my job is at risk. My round is classified as a "town" round, even though I come back covered in mud every day. Why have RM never insisted that there be mail boxes at the end of long drives or steps. I could do 1.5 - 2 rounds if I didn't have to do so much unnecesssary walking to do.

I meant to say that IMO most people do not need to receive mail every day. Most of the mail I receive each week is nothing important and one delivery a week (or option to collect more frequently) would be sufficient. I suspect that a lot of people if given the choice of collection would not bother as most of it is junk (and not only D2Ds count as junk - mail shots from Sky, BT etc)

I just posted this because I found it interesting, the only way forward is unity and organising our selves. The bottom line we are many, they are the few but we let them tell us what to do. Till we educate our selves to realise we can make the decisions without having to give that power to someone else, and only then we will get change for the better. This forum is a great example how people came together, organised a viable structure, and everyone benefits from it. A while back I was taking to an ex-postie and he was recalling education meetings by the union during meal breaks which everyone took together. Its very tribal having meal breaks together, break that meeting point and it becomes easier to "manage" people. Just thoughts, that’s long nights for you.

whilst I am aware that posties, less and less have the time, to be chatty, one casual shift, the older lady I delivered to, wanted to know where her normal Mail man was, so clearly the regular posties can have an impact on someones life.

If I want to stop for a natter - I do - and no I don't book it as docket Today I have talked "westies" with a dog owner and football programmes (far more interesting) with another - total time about 10 minutes. I'm not a bloody robot - furthermore I don't walk around with a music machine plumbed into my head - it's nice to know what's going on on my patch ...
