had our revision 3/4 months ago most duties are a joke as i and many others expected they would be ,this week the dom as made our start times a bit earlier to get out the door quicker on delivery,what i want to know is on our board in the canteen it says how long you should be on ips,for me its 45 mins mon,1 hour tue,wed,thur,& fri and sat is 40 mins.what iwant to know is when your time is up on ips eg 1 hr on wed ,can you just walk off onto your own frame and put your mail in,a soon as you come in to start the dom wants you straight on ips sorting and not on your own frame putting your first tray in,am i within my rights to leave ips when my time is up.

Probably not, but it depends what the agreement is in your office.
Assuming you operate a clear office policy, then for you to leave the IPS at a given time, there would still need to be sufficient resources left to finish the sorting.
If the office is continually failing to clear the IPS by the set time, that needs to be looked at because obviously failing IPS leads to late dispatch which leads to failing walks.

i take it this is what duty builder has spat out well when the dom realises it wont work he will ignore it and you will be as directed , its a complete joke.

Does it really matter, no matter what they instruct you to do, you should always finish on your time, and if you have to cut off then so be it, your dim will soon get the message.

P318s are a thing of the past and in many units (Mail Centres etc etc) they have been superceded by Job Descriptions.

Where P318s (or an itemised duty breakdown) are still in use there will almost certainly be a footnote which reads : "Or As Directed By You Line Manager".

So you all had 28 days colsultation notice on change of hours either directly from the DOM or by your depot rep making sure all members were aware of any wheeling and dealing?

We have printouts on each walk frame breaking down each day, in terms of how long we should be doing indoor work and getting our frame ready to deliver, sadly not all walks have the same breakdown which muddies the waters somewhat (so one day you might be on a walk with 1 hour of IPS, while another walk on the same day does 90 minutes of portering for example). Unless requested to do otherwise by lino, we all stick to our time for IPS/packets/portering and go back to our frame at the time the frame sheet says, whether we have completed that indoor aspect or not.

Have to say though that the breakdowns are farcical, on an average day you will always leave later than the guideline time of 1000, if you have followed the indoor work guidelines correctly including taking 20 minutes meal relief! Tuesday is the funniest, as the guideline has the 30 minutes national standard of work time learnng incorporated into the indoor schedule because it is so light in their eyes, yet those of us doing the job properly indoors and out are cutting off legititimately without having had the WTL 9 times out of 10!

Common sense, never leave van unlocked and running, if it gets stolen ,you WILL be sacked , no question. For gods sake, just use your common sense.Your dim will not be your friend if ever anything goes wrong, if you trip , it will be your fault, if you rush around and lose mail, it will be your fault, they wont stand by you. Just remember that.

318,s may be a thing of the past, but that wont stop me, its duty content then, we need to know every minute of the day wot is expected of us!!!

Chatting to an ex-colleague the other day..

He said that planning for their revision showed that 3 FT staff needed to be employed... Revision has been shelved..

Not all staff were consulted during revisions.
Some only had a few docket kings in with the planners doing the walks and it was totally fooked up .
We was given all the spiel about the planners coming back etc but it never happened and the DOM gave up asking

You should do what the runners in our office used to do...Come in 1 hr + early to get the job done at no cost to RM

we have had our revision in june 2011 and still waiting for the walks to be sorted out new planner gone sick and the dim thinks everything is ok walks being left in most busy days .just work to time its the only way. but you will still get your docket kings who will pull them out and the early birds

in my office the duty builder said 1 and half hour sorting half hr prep then break when i went to take my break my manager stopped me from taking it when i pointed out the duty builer says 7 am break i was told to ignore the duty builder ffs the planners had spent 18 months putting them together waste of time money or what
