I don't understand why people hate this job so much?

I have been a postie for a year now and still do not really understand why people complain so much about this job...

Maybe I have a good small office and a good manager unlike others, but I start when I should start, do the walk I am told, and either cut off or go overtime if it is a busy day. Simple as that. So stress free, get the DAB radio in and go for a nice walk-about.

Even over Christmas I was sent to a different office, on a new round everyday working 2+ hours overtime and I still found myself nearly enjoying it!

What I'm trying to say is... Maybe RM attracts a certain type of... Work shy moaner!

What it does attract or should i say used to attract because it's far more heavily unionised than the private sector are a lot of people who don't see being treated like s**t as something they have to put up with in their terms and conditions.
Moaners we might be...work shy?
Maybe at your place,in your office and in your...limited experience.

I agree with jw, not so much about the work shy moaner, alot of the folks that moan on here and at work have done the job considerably longer than jw and me put together, so the s..t we have seen mutiplied by 20 years, will get any one down.

Having said that..... ..... i do (as we all do) work with some work shy moaners aswell.

I have worked pre and post revision and still love the job, there is no getting away from it, i just do.

Your office sounds pretty similar to mine! I also been in the job a year still enjoy it but it does burn me out at times. I go over sometimes and other days if I have to finish I will cut off. I get paid for all the overtime I do. I guess it depends which office you work at. No comment on my manager though! Could be better but could be a hell of a lot worse. We have some terrible rounds. I tend to get my head down and get on with the job but I can understand a lot of the grievances I read on here...

Nope, never was! Not quite sure how it happened...

i started 1995,at first loved the job,started early finished early no complaints,but year by year by year the job has got worse and worse and worse,in this present day MOST doms just want to hit there budget/targets so they get there BIG BONUS.in the late 1990s and early years of 2000,customers got there mail early and we provided a very efficient service,everybody was happy,nowadays anything can happen what the hell has gone wrong............

I didn't hate the job. I loved the job with my ice cream trolley and just me. What has made me leave is the toxic,lying,bullying scum (I can't call them managers anymore as they don't manage anything, they just bully people a huge difference).

Life is too short too put up with those kind of people. What goes around comes around and I hope they get it ten times worse.

Well if you'd been here a lot longer then you would know just how good it was. Im now way what you might call a long termer (just 10 years) but back then it was so much better than it is now. In terms of docket 'do ability'. P&L has killed off the good times.

I love the job, the actual work, my colleagues on the whole make the morning sorting enjoyable, I love being out and about, walking, delivering, chatting to people.

I fking hate the company we work for though, and what they are doing to what was once a great service, and to their extremely undervalued employees. i think most of us work pretty fking hard when we do the job, and it just doesn't seem to be noticed...

It's a job end of,, ok days ,bad days ,,the lack of respect shown to the staff by the bosses is the worst bit ,they are only interested in there big bonuses . It's a big greedy world we live in now , sickening I know.

I think it depends a lot on your personal experiences and expectations both in and out of work. If your treated fairly within your office and shown some consideration then you will tend to favour the job. However this seldom lasts.

Its starts to go wrong when the years build up and you have experienced the strict regimented absence procedure and despite trying to book some holiday almost 12 months in advance but being told you cant take it. Things like that can change your mind and lead to resentment.

this used to be a decent job years ago but when crozier and leighton came in as we say in scotland the ba was burst.
there was always some slack in the job but they started pushing for every single minute to be utilised and the people who came in for them wanted even more and we now have the situation where a lot of posties dont have enough time to finish their duties.
in any job workers should be able to do what ever they work at in the time allocated sadly that does'nt happen in this job anymore so no wonder people hate the job now.
