Changed From CSS Nights to Delivery While On Holiday

Just a quick couple of questions about being moved (on annual leave this week):

1.Have been a CSS operator for the last 2 years 4 months and have been informed by a work mate that I have been moved
onto delivery next week without being spoken to by management.He is telling me they have done it on seniority,when the
jobs were advertised they were done on suitability and not seniority so are they able to bring seniority into it now.

2: When being moved off your job are they not supposed to offer you a walk of your own or am I going to be stuck as a reserve.

Sounds bollox to me. Did you sign for duty 2 yr ago.
If it is right and i cant see it being, you should i think be entitled to pay protection. you should receive night rate and TPM allowance from the CSS. Around £100 a week. RM dont want to be paying you on delivery and someone else the allowances for the same job.

Yes I signed for the duty over 2 years ago.Made a couple of calls to people I work with on nights and have been
told a guy that only come on to the job 8 weeks ago is staying as a CSS operator as he is the 2nd most senior of the people on nights.
Will have to speak to union rep when I go back in.

Whats he been doing for last 2yr? You signed for CSS so yours till resign or revision. Get a good rep not one of his mates.

CSS jobs in my unit were signed for on a one yearly basis and once the year was up they stayed on the duties unless they wanted to come off. Recent cuts on nights means 4 CSS operaters will be displaced back onto delivery, they will be the 4 with least seniority but they will have pay protection under MTSF.

Yeah seems were having cuts as well by the sounds of it DOM wants 3 off nights when you say seniority is it with royal mail
or the CSS job/shift. I know why the guy wants to stay on nights as we do a 4 night week instead of a 6 day week.

Oh he has always been on delivery since he started but loves the shift pattern that's why he wants to stay.

Funny thing is we started the CSS job on 6 nights a week they wanted 6 and only 6 people went for it, when
it went 4 nights week they was queuing up for the job.

if he has only just come on shift, you and rest of your night shift are senior to him under MTSF. All to do with the allowances i believe. Well that is how we understood it when we had similar problems in MC.

it sounds to me tha Royal Mail are lapsing either a sequencing machine CSS operators. This is becoming widespread.

If I have read your responses properly , 1st whilst the intial acceptance was based on suitability it was also linked to seniority. So the more senior suitable would in front of a less suitable junior.

You mention that the. 2nd most senior night person has just become a CSS operator so he would still be the second senior person and would carry that seniority forward.

I think you need to speak to your rep , if they intend to permanently or frequently lapse a night duty then where does that leave you in terms of pay protection and if you now have to do deliveries why cannot there now not be a resign.

Like I said the CSS machines were intially introduced on the basis of 8000 per hour most machines now do above 11000. Royal Mail track through auto miss when every CSS machine is switched on and swiitched off ,this is done centrally and this then allows them the opportunity to decide whether they can shut a machine on certain weeks , cease a machine altogether or even shut down an MPU.

I know seniority is the rules but still feels like a kick in balls losing your job to someone only just started on the CSS job.

Well i know understand why RM had (still have) the 'competitions' (charts for performance) for this area.

X percent over target and we can reduce machines and if possible people. No brainer really
