Our Dom is a fairly Decent guy,and does have a good understanding of the job .
Recently he is looking so stressed out ,he is being torn in 2 impossible Directions,Area wants blood and cuts wich he cannot deliver,Everyday a battle to cover all the walks .

I cannot understand why anyone would want to be a Manager in RM ,area do not let them Manage .

We posties have too many brains to be a DOM!

Doms can't manage as they are not trained managers. In our DO they are failed/lazy posties who thought it looked fun and less work to be a manager.

I have managed and supervised in previous jobs and the management culture in RM is toxic in the extreme. Some of you may think that what I say next is arrogant, but its the truth: I couldn't manage in Royal Mail because my conscience wouldn't allow me to.

Not for me. They get treated like crap.

Sooner pick up a walk on OT a couple of times a week if i needed the money. :hmmmm

Same as me Teebs. Worked for a blue chip bank in management grade for my sins. When I first took promotion my superiors encouraged managers to be creative, think outside the box, encourage teamwork and motivation for the people you LED. Come the Nineties and all of a sudden a new style of senior management were created with their cost cutting agendas, no encouragement. working to confined agendas, the only encouragement was to make the front line staff work harder and harder. This was not why I became a manager, but fortunately the company were looking to reduce the management grades and I got a nice little settlement agreement, and anew part time job with Royal Mail which I thought would be a nice stressless period up to retirement. Wrong. Royal Mail now engage with the same principles but adding on a culture of bullying and harassment that has probably not been seen in British Industry since the early part of the 20th century.

True mate, but I think as a part-timer you do get to be outside of things a little, which is helpful in many ways. As a part-timer I am typically in the actual building for 30-40 mins per day depending on how busy it is. This gives the management very little time to try and bully or manipulate me like they do to the full-timers.

Also the most powerful word in your vocabulary is 'NO'. I find myself saying it a lot.

Can you work your day off? NO
Can you take a lapse? NO

Pretty much those 2 questions repeated, almost daily.

NO !!!

The amount of failed, unliked, lazy, bullying, loud posties who've sold their souls to go to the dark side for a shilling disgusts me. To come into work on a daily basis knowing you'd have to lie, harass, bully, torment and s**t on ex-colleagues is dispicable. I have no respect for RM management or what they stand for.
