PDA... Don't last all day.

Over the past year my PDA has slowly got worse. The battery life has become less and less over time. It's now so bad that once I take it off the DO charger it starts to BLEEP! and the critical battery life message pops up. Now over the past year I have highlighted this problem to the manager and others. There were rumors of new batteries coming. But nothing has changed. No one mentions anything, or helps in getting this fixed.

What does the manager actually achieve from not getting new batteries or PDA's ? Does it ruin his budget? I don't understand why nothing gets done.

Our office got a few new batteries.

Then other PDA's started needing them.

And my manager told us that we weren't allowed any more as we'd had our quota, and apparently we'd been given sufficient to last.

Whether what manager said was true or not is anyones guess.

if your on a walking dutie why do you have a PDA.

if your on a walking dutie why do you have a PDA.

Because duties that have vans also have to walk too (not to mention that the PDA only charges when the engine is running).

I do a park & loop town round. Its a large round and lots of walking is required. Lots of specials and recorded parcels need to be scanned.

Probably most of the PDAs around the country need new batteries

In an old edition of The Courier a few months back you can find an article about PDA's and in this article it was said that if you have any problems with the battery on your PDA you have to tell your manager and a new battery will be sent out Special Delivery straight away for you.

Now i am not saying they will do this but it is in black and white some where to use as pressure.

Does anyone else remember it or even have a copy of it?

its the same with P/L van tyres.
A lot of the vans tracking on these new Vauxhall Combi vans need adjusting and all the vans tyres are bald on the insides.
What does the DOM do , he takes all the spares out of the new vans and swaps the tyres over without solving the real problem of the tracking.
So we now have a fleet of vans going round with no spare wheels and dodgy tracking

Simple word of advice ! When you dock the PDA in the charger make sure that it reads AC and the red light comes on ?

They have put out a tender for a new lot of PDA's worth £300m,could be a while yet till it all gets sorted,so as per the courier bollox,demand new batteries or flag it to our Moya justsayit@royalmail.com

and you know this and continue to use equipment 'not fit for purpose'

What don't people understand about the consequences of condoning this approach - at the least it's a disciplinary action and at worst.. well, lets not go there.
