couple of issues

been in the job over a year but have been told my regular round is to be taken by someone else soon, summut due to length of service

currently 24 hours with rest days MT WTh FS rotating on a 3 week basis

have been told i'm going to be a reserve and my rest days are pretty much at their discretion , so more than likely always MT and hardly ever Sat

not liking the idea of it one bit
bad enough being put of different rounds every day but not being able to plan anything for a day off seems too much
also been told it means i'm on a 4 day week doing a 5 day job whatever that means

am i entitled to a rotating rest day or not ?


also

recently hours changed for FT staff
shorter IPS on some days and 15 mins longer rounds on W TH F
only recently found out i only get paid until 14:30 on those 3 days and not 14:45 as the book shows me and FT staff
even more annoying found out that when doing overtime it was booked from 14:45 thus meaning a loss of 15 mins
(have been promised it will be looked at)
but its still happening

they seem to be calling it a re-sign i think
just seems like one or two unhappy with their current rounds have picked another

rounds i am on is a single man round with big trolley (i cover regular men,same 2 rounds twice a week)
chap taking round is coming off a 2 man round in van i believe

i am very accommodating and change to any round at any time for them but would still like my fixed rest days

you having a fixed walk(s) after only being in a year is quite unheard of in reality.

new comers are nearly always reserves and will hardly ever (if ever) get a long weekend off or even a saturday off.

of course you would like to have fixed rest days, I would like every Saturday off myself, but thats never gonna happen ( although this could change when we either get sold or privatize )

all you can do really is suck it up and live with it :(

new comers are nearly always reserves and will hardly ever (if ever) get a long weekend off or even a saturday off.

The BT2010 agreement is quite clear that reserves will be entitled to 1 in 4 Saturdays, exactly like the duty holders.
The staffing should be done 2 weeks in advance so you should know your days off in advance.
If they try to stiff you with Mon/Tues off every week, speak to your rep and then ask the manager for a grievance form.

If you have been doing 3x8 hour shifts for a year, I would check to see whether without your agreement they can switch this to 4x6 hour shifts. Reason I query this is because the worst scenario is that they could make you do 6x4 hour shifts. Being able to make peeps work more days when they are part time does not in my opinion appear to be reasonable, as for all they know you may have another job on the days you do not work for RM. Check it out with union.

1 in 4 doesn't neccessarilly mean 1 every 4. a reserve might have no saturdays off for 6 weeks then get 2 consecutively. fully agree though that they are entitled to the same number of saturdays off as everyone else.

Bout time the union made it a fairer workplace for the reserves and floaters ,the doms all treat them as pieces of rubbish .
