What happens to letters addressed to Santa?

Is there a standard procedure for dealing with them or do they go in the bin?

Apparently they go to some place where if there is a return address a card/letter thing gets sent out.

EDIT:Found this...

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

All the letters addressed to Santa go to an address in Belfast by S.D where apparently they all get answered. That's what we do in our D.O anyway

Official postcode for mail that just says Santa, or reindeer land etc goes to bt99. If it has an actual country eg Lapland/north pole then it goes to that place and they have they're own reply system, if it doesn't have a stamp again it goes to bt99. The reply from Royal Mail is a wee card with a letter inside from Santa and a page to colour in. My son got his reply about a week and a half after sending it out. Not too bad considering the amount they deal with. :o)

Santa (manager)receives it and if you have been good he takes note of what presents you want ,he then takes his mk1 bippa and does a street and finds its hard work, he finds it has enough reindeer under the bonnett to get up a steep hill even with his girth. He then lifts his gut out of the van and brushes the crumbs from his lap and goes in for a coffee since his lego hands are straightening from doing some work for a change. He sees other santas having egg and bacon rolls from the canteen and decides to join them, just to be social of course. He can always get someone later to do it with a bit of encouragement(harrassement).

There is the service that RM does but there also I think a couple of other ones where you pay to receive a reply. There were a couple of letters to Father Christmas in one of the boxes I emptied the other day but I can't remember what address they had written on the envelopes.
