I cancelled mine about 3yrs ago and i have never needed them. if you are capable of doing what you are supposed to do chances are you will be left to get on with it. if you behave like a clown (most of my ex-office) do/did you will be targeted and have a manager on your back nearly ever shift.

If every one had this attitude we would be in a much worse situation, leaving the CWU is not the answer, getting active might be. I love the way the CWU gets the blame for most problems, perhaps some should look at what royal mails real objectives are and what would and could happen without the CWU being present. I dont believe everything the CWU has done is what I would particular wanted but I do honestly believe we would be in worse place without them.

Legal representation? Half the reps haven't got a clue about legalities. As for the CWU they'll represent you at a tribunal IF there's a better than 50% chance they'll win. That's awful nice of them.

If people want to leave there is usually a reason for it.
It's always best to find the reason first before having a go.

The CWU now is not so much a union in the old fashioned sense but a service,it was their choice to go down that route not mine.

If some people do not think they are getting value for money from that service they will unfortunately leave and there's little point banging the drum about gool old fashioned trade union principles because in my opinion the union abandoned or at least sidelined those a long time ago in preference for a business model.
I don't think our union is unique in that by the way...most unions have.
Trade Union Officials...Managers...very difficult to differentiate nowadays.

if you believe we would be better off without a union then so be it. i don't. the harsh fact is tories hate organised labour, however poorly we percieve the cwu have performed over recent years, they try to make things better for working people. tories thrive on unemployment, and poor terms and conditions. if you think you can improve your lot as an individual. leave the union. but you will be mistaken

It's not about what i believe suffolk.
If i wanted to leave i could do so tomorrow and it would have little impact either on me or the union.
It's about what the ordinary member thinks,how they perceive the union,what their experience of "the service" is.

Not the trade unionist/member...they are a dying breed...the customer/member.
If you're going to treat your members like customers you have to give them what they want or they quite rightly walk away because they don't have the political,ideological or emotional ties to the trade union movement that we have.

I believe it is those who have had the strongest allegiance to unionism over their working life who have felt most disappointed and most vociferous in the manner of the conduct of this and other unions. The principles of trade unionism and care for its members has for quite some time been secondary to the union itself. How far have we gone down the road to perdition when you hear senior union members say "there will be winners and losers" - you expect that sort of expression from a bookies runner. Solidarity then according to the union only works one way..................how sad.

a lot of people we deal with now have no alliegance to unions or the concept of sticking together in diffulcut times. they may have been brain washed by the thatcher years, or the the low brow right wing press, but the facts are if you belong to a union your terms and conditions will be better than those who go it alone. it is a fact that those individuals who decide to be free spirits are still happy to take the benifits the majority fight for, and pay for.
