ive been with royal mail now for 1 year and 6 months, ive 2 little girls and keep getting these contracts for two month a month three months a month, never known anywhere like it, ive never had a day off love the graft and love the job but where is the job sercurity?? everytime i hear about these revisions, privitisation I fear for my job

when can i finally think my job is safe??? when i get to the 2 year mark?

Hi you should get your rep to see the DOM, if he knows that you are still going to be there in 6mths
why not give the perm contract now, he should push this with the DOM, if no joy get him to ask the Area Rep
to speak to the area manager. I did it and got two lads sorted out.

Royal Mail had a situation back in 2004 whereby a lot of its workforce where classed as "temporary" despite working there for months if not years. Mr Leighton made everyone permanent within a few months which was a good thing but not sure how bad it is now?

3.2 Royal Mail employees will be employed on permanent contracts, except where there is a genuine short term need identified. CWU will be consulted in advance where there is any such requirement. Temporary contracts will not exceed two years unless it has been jointly agreed that there are very exceptional circumstances. The position of temporary contract employees will be kept under regular review by the local parties, with a view to converting to permanent contracts where and when possible. Additionally, where change programmes have been completed and bedded in, the status of temporary contract employees will be reviewed and converted to permanent contracts unless there is no need for this additional resourcing or where there is an identified and agreed need to continue with a fixed term contract. Royal Mail confirms that as part of the review of this agreement, it is the aspiration to reduce the length of temporary contracts to no more than one year.

thanks for the reply guys, its just no job sercurity at all it seems backwards that iam in a pension through royal mail i work my arse off everyday currently workin 50hours plus never had a day off yet i keep getting a month contract here 3 months here. never know anything like it. theres many people at royal mail on these contracts around 6/7 in my office some of which have been there longer

All offices that have gone through the transformation revisions in the EH/TD area have been told to substantiate all fixed term contracts as of this week.
We have 6 being processed right now.
Don't know if it's a national thing or just area.

everyone is our DO is permanent no temps here you will get made up just got a lazy dom who dont give a s**t about people
