Campaign Event – Postal Workers Day 17th December

Last week the Union successfully re-launched our campaign against privatisation and unfair competition at a leading UK Postal Industry Conference on the 4th December 2012 and the Lobby of Parliament on the 6th December.

The purpose of this LTB is to advise Branches that we are organising an event entitled “Postal Workers Day” on the 17th December, which is designed to play a small part in supporting the overall campaign.

The intention is to try and capitalise on the goodwill that exists towards postal workers during the festive season. The day has been targeted to coincide with what is normally the heaviest posting day during the Christmas pressure period. The event and the timing of it is seen as a further opportunity to promote the fact that Royal Mail postal workers are part of the fabric of our communities and that Royal Mail itself is the nations only universal postal service provider.

This is an ambitious project and the strategy is to see this year as a first step towards eventually establishing “Postal Workers Day” as an annual event in the UK calendar.

As such, the approach this year is to select a small number of offices from each region across the UK and create national, regional and local media interest about the important work our members do on a day to day basis.

Regional Secretaries have been tasked with selecting these offices and appropriate materials to support the event will be provided in each location.





Please ensure that the content of this LTB is brought to the attention of CWU members in the workplace and in particular explain that this is a first step in building towards making Postal Workers Day an annual event.

Finally, we can also advise Branches that a further letter to members home addresses will be sent out before Christmas expanding on our campaign and explaining how we intend to address workplace issues.

I wonder how many Delivery Posties will be involved - as our branch is centred on a closing MC - I am guessing very few.
