UNION ADVICE NEEDED NOW!

Post by themecolour »

Some members of my DO went to work this morning and as it is a very light day were informed that if they finish early they will have that time removed from their overtime from yesterday is this legal?

in addition we have no Union rep at the DO

No that is not correct, there are no banking of hours in Rm so no clawing back hours from yesterday.

It's unlawful deduction of wages if it's not part of any local or national collective agreement and it's not part of any national agreement so....
Ask your manager to put his proposal in writing and forward a copy to your branch.
Contact your area rep and if the manager does follow through with the threat....as an office you might want to consider whether it's worth doing overtime under those conditions. :whistle

Easy ! don't come back early I won't start early & I don't expect to finish early , people who come in early , run around just to go home as bit early are wrecking the job . I came into work the other day , it was 7.18 and my dim came up to me and told me I was slow ! as some pasties working around me had thrown in door to doors and a tray of sequenced mail I told him I will start throwing in at 7.20 when we are supposed to start ! He shuffled off to his little room , my point is it makes some of us look bad when the runners think its best to run about in case they manage to make half a hour .

Fishtank, thanks for this I will pass the information on to those that require it.

Richard,
Thanks but I think you missed the point. This is not about people rushing around and finishing early, this is about people genuinely going over their time because, well its christmas and we have loads to do. However the next day (today) was unusually light and therefore the manager in question decided to take back some of that time! The points you raise right or wrong are for another day. But I thank you for your input anyway :)

As an example Royal Mail has built into the workshop a session on 'flexing' that states if a delivery OPG finishes early on a Tuesday for instance, then they owe the business that time back. This has been positioned within the session and 'personal jotter' as time that can be claimed back the following week or even after that, as it is time that is 'owed' to the business. This of course is completely untrue and Royal Mail have been informed that this will need to be changed and brought in line with the national agreement on Pay and Modernisation

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Like they actually give a toss about agreements, they'll do what they want.

The force is strong in this one.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

They will only do what they want if you are not prepared to challenge. You can get this sort of nonsense stopped immediately by requesting the action in writing and then challenging that action against the principles of the National Agreements. Do nothing and you will have to live with the consequences.

Well done themecolour, great to hear of positive results and a lesson to those who will not get off their asses and challenge.

Union area rep in today showed some staff the item about why there's no such agreement as working hours back ,owing hours etc . Surely they are due us back overtime payments from over a year now as they kept ramming down our throats we can't put overtime down etc I'f we finished early one day etc. We've been lied too for all this time then,,

There may be a case for the old signing in and out sheets to be made available so that members can make justified claims for unpaid overtime. This might cut into Moyas profits for the year and reduce management bonuses and be paid into the rightful pockets.
