Repair of damaged mail

Can anyone please tell me who should repair damaged mail found during IPS. Should it be person on the delivery it corresponds to, or by the locker? It has always been the locker in our office but the DOM wants it to be the duty holder now. Any ideas?

Seems overkill if have some of the tape Royal Mail have, especially if its just a corner of an enveloped or something similar.

When I asked a manager for some tape many years ago to re-seal a packet I was told to put it in a 'Sorry' bag instead otherwise I could be accused of tampering with it.

That repair tape is crap, the number of times that I've seen a damaged parcel and it's hanging open right where the repair tape is and them repair bags are crap as well, they're too flimsey

Just bung an elastic band around it. Does the job.

I also carry a few re-direction bags around as well ... to keep undeliverables/specials dry if they're hanging around in my bag for several hours ...

Is this also a hanging offence ?

(and that's before I get onto my collection of P739s from all the offices I've worked at/been sent to - beautifully mounted in a Stanley Gibbons album )

Let me explain,Just say some one on your walk has complained that there is stuff missing from there mail,bank statements,Dvd's or anything really,I.B decide to do a few spot checks,postman A gets pulled up and his pouch gets checked which I.B can do anytime he's in the clear then they pull you up and find those "sorry for the damage bags" in your pouch,how can you convince them that you are not opening mail pocketing the goodies and then put it into a damaged goods bag,then hiding the stolen stuff to be collected later.P739's are obviously ok.Have you ever had any experiance with I'B ?
