Telling me they have been instructed by RM to defend at ET.
Do they usually send out this letter BEFORE appeal has been finalised?

once you file an et1 rm will instruct their solicitors to inform you that they are reresenting them.

did you get the letter direct from the RM solicitors ?
usually everything goes via the tribunal office.
if you have lodged the ET1, that's fine.
the response is called an ET3. [this sets out what basis the ET1 is disputed by RM]
when you receive the ET3 - you should let the CWU know right away.
if you have an ongoing Royal Mail internal procedure and you receive a response that you are happy with (e.g, you win an appeal)
you can withdraw the ET1 at any point, and remember to keep the cwu informed at all times.

It would be interesting to know just how much it costs royal mail a year to keep defending themselves through these solicitors

the solicitors wont know (they more than likely wouldnt want to be breaking employment law in some way by knowing if royal mail were prejudging an appeal hearing), but management well that would be an entirely different story............General Mannerheim wrote:Really?zx135 wrote:no they dont
