mail centre overtime

on friday i was asked if i wanted to be considered for overtime at the local mail centre sorting packets on monday and tuesday between 1600- 2200, so on monday as it was my day off i went up at 10am to see if there was any more overtime going, and the manager at the time said i could stay at signed my dockit sheet for 12 hours, come 5pm another manager had started his shift and told me i shouldnt be there and sent me home as it wasnt authorised, now i find out im banned from going up again, even though they have other people from other delivery offices doing overtime, also 3 people from my office who only started 4 weeks ago on 24 hr contracts have been to the mail centre over xmas on a 39hr week with optional overtime,

anyway my question is can they ban me from doing overtime at the mail centre and also should it not go down to seniority who gets to work at the mail centre especially when they will be on 39hr weeks over xmas, and i will be stuck on 25hours with no overtime because there is no leave in december.

You did not break the WTD did you?
The manager who said you could start work at 1000hrs must have signed the signing on sheet. Get hold of your rep to get a copy and you should have received a letter stating reasons for the ban. Raise a grievance and work out how much money you will be down until you are allowed to perform OT. Your Area Rep should be able to pursue this and your branch should take it to the small claims court if RM are not following procedures.

Most Mail Centres have agreed overtime rules where they have priority over the overtime within their mail centre. Most will often offer overtime to delivery members on a fair and equal basis. What is not acceptable is members of other offices turning up and getting overtime from a manager when it has not been discussed with the CWU and has not been offered first to the staff within the mail centre first and then a fair basis.

I know lots of mail centres who get the hump with managers offering overtime to their mates within going through the agreed and fair process.

On a personal level I don't think you should be banned but you should be told you either get the overtime allocated to you on a fair basis but you should never turn up at that mail centre asking a manager for overtime.

It's not a mail centre any more it's shut down and opens up at Xmas as a packet hub, so only staff there are casuals and staff that have been moved from delivery offices,

If casuals are doing the job and you want the O/T then they can send the casual home!
