Royal Mail responds to CWU release

Royal Mail has responded to a CWU press release saying they will hold a consultative ballot in the new year about boycotting competitors’ mail

Our position is quite clear on this issue. All of the mail we handle is important to us and needs to be delivered, as we always do, six days a week. It is vital to all of us at Royal Mail, to Royal Mail as a business, and most importantly, to our customers, that the post is delivered.

As we have previously said, we are concerned about the impact of unfettered direct delivery competition on Royal Mail. Currently, competitors are allowed to ‘cherry-pick’ higher density, more profitable routes in urban areas and ignore lower density rural areas where delivery is more costly.

Under the universal service obligation, we are required to deliver a service, with published quarterly standards of service. Competitors are not currently required to meet any regulated service standards, and do not need to maintain the high, fixed cost network that we need to fulfil our obligations.

We will be responding to Ofcom’s consultation on direct delivery in due course. Royal Mail supports competition on a level playing field and believes Ofcom should consider competition in the light of its primary duty of securing the six-day-a-week, one price goes anywhere universal servi

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You see...that's not quite true...
DSA companies have an entirely separate Mon-Fri 5 day license which means that when handling mail they have an obligation to arrange delivery of that mail(usually through us) covering monday to friday only.
Our obligation under the USO is only to provide a six day letter delivery to each address, but it does not specifically mention DSA as a traffic stream.
The bottom line is that DSA does not need to be delivered on a saturday and it's purely a Royal Mail's decision to do so.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

So we could boycot DSA every Saturday and it wouldn't be a problem. :nana :nana
