royal mail handling charge'

Post by daveyeff »

just had a parcel arrived from overseas, there was a customs charge of £9.16p to pay. to be honest i didnt really mind as much because i,ve had quite a few through without incurring ANY charge,,,but what pisses me off no end is the royal mail handling charge. after customs check it (SO I AM TOLD) they give it to royal mail to reseal, which takes about 3.2 seconds. they then apply THEIR charge which is a whopping 8 quid. to make matters worse 3 days later the same happened when they intercepted another parcel, so there was another 8 quid handling charge. how the hell can they justify an 8 quid charge for a few seconds work. and are we not exempt from a handling charge being staff. fekkn boiling at them me :evil/mad

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I don't think it's a few seconds, I think there's a bit more to it.

Anyway, I agree with Postman, buy from the UK and you won't have to pay the extra.

That's even worse, if the NHS won't prescribe them then they don't think you need them.

nah mate, im past that stage anyhow. :Very Happy . they dont supply them cos they are supposed to be for short term use only as they are habit forming i.e. addictive. but i was put on them in 1998 and have been ever since, apart from when the doc decided in 2006 that i shouldnt still be on them so he stopped the prescription at the drop of a hat. i tried other doctors and was put back on them on a tempory basis as i was practically climbing the walls with withdrawal. it was during this window of opertunity that i discovered they can be bought on-line, from a totally legit company and having read up on it, and finding out its totally legal i jumped at the chance, and have been buying them ever since from the same company. as do thousands of people.

Had you considered the fact that having started in 98, which is 14 years, they may just be a tad addictive and your doctor was probably right is stopping them? Have you researched any long term effects they may have?

If you read the letter that tells you you have inccured a customs charge the reason for the handling charge is fully explained and it ain't just for a few seconds work.

There is a reason why prescription medication is just that - because when a doctor say stop taking them you are supposed to, especially if they are addictive.

Anyway that handling charge is because Royal Mail paid the VAT for you, and for a company to pay out actually costs money.

However odds are that you will never pay a customs charge again, as there simply are not enough people to check every bag for customs fees so they only pick a certain number each day. You were just unlucky these times.

Not entirely true as certain importers will always be targeted as customs are well aware of the type of contents in parcel.

royal mail didnt pay the vat for me,,,,, the vat was £9.16 which i paid to customs. royal charged 8 quid ''handling'' fee. disgrace. as for the prescription side of the discussion,,,,there are a lot of drugs that become habit forming, i.e. painkillers, especially ''opiates'' which are narcotic painkillers such as tramadol, codiene, etc. people continue to take these to 'manage' their pain levels and as a result need them continuously. wether a doctor tells you to stop taking them or not, if you are in pain then whatever he says is a moot point.

the letter that was stuck to the packet stated that customs applied a vat duty to any thing over the value of £15 @ the vat rate which is 20%, hence the £9.16 charge. the 8 quid 'rip off' fee was applied for rm to seal it back up.
