No

Attendance Agreement.

3. RETURN TO WORK DISCUSSIONS
When someone returns to work from absence the line manager must aim as soon as possible to speak privately and out of earshot of others with the person in a
non-threatening and supportive way outside formal procedures with the following objectives:
· to acknowledge the employee's return and show it is valued
· for the employee to air any concerns
· to see if any help is needed and provide direction to encourage regular attendance
· to ensure absence is appropriately certified

Absences due to sickness are assumed to be genuine.

A return to work discussion will take place but employees will not be required to disclose information of a personal or sensitive nature if they choose not to do so.
A diary note that a return to work discussion has taken place will be kept in addition to the confirmation on the self-certification form.

You cant - only a stage 3 can be appealed. However, the member could if they have grounds raise a grievance against the manager. Possible reasons for a grievance are many but could be unfair application, not following procedure etc.

There is a new attendance procedure which is being trialled soon might be worth reading up on http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 36&t=48665" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So what happens if he is let off a stage 1? Does it mean next time he goes sick he has to have another stage 1 meeting?

It depends on the situation. If he does not go sick for a year then no. If he goes sick again and, not including the discounted period/s, its triggers a stage 1 then yes.

However, unless it was a Accident on Duty, and the manager decides the postie was completely not at fault, or the absence was due to a DDA (now equality act) recognised condition (which he has informed them of) then its extremely unlikely he will have the absence that trigged the stage discounted.

just putting my two cents worth in

i was under the impression that if an employee was off work through sickness that required medical attention, say appendicitus,
when that employee returns to work, the employeer has a legal responsibility for the welfare of that employee. Thats why a return to work interview is conducted.

The interview is to see if any adjustments need to be made or a referal to occupational health is necessary before being put back on full duties.

This is covered under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

I must stress i am talking of operations, surgery, invasive procedures and not your everyday IBS or flu

Hello!
Before we start I have incriminating evidence of you and an your immediate superior going into a gay club?
Do you still want to proceed or do I have to send the negatives off to the paper? :shhhhh
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

I would normally agree with you but in a small town there might only be one gay club - so if you and your manager were gay you would probably end up in the same club at the same time.
Not ideal but unavoidable.
I wouldn't buy or accept a drink from him though.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
