just wondering been a postie for 10 years im about half way down seniority list our office is struggling for drivers when the revision comes in . so ive been infomed by management that if i dont take up driving i will be bottom of seniority list cant be right surely any advice greatly appreciated

The seniority list is the seniority list, it cant be changed or altered unless someone leaves. When you get to your pick you obviously wont be able to pick a driving duty but you can pick a non driver van shared duty or a HCT duty. The only thing i would say that if you did do your change over you may get a better choice of duties to pick from but they cant make you.

thanks for your reply so just to clear things up if you become a driver do you gain seniority over a walking postman who has more length of service

No thats not right either. What i mean is if you are a driver then you can choose a driving job on top of the jobs available to a non driver. Being a driver only gives you a better choice in duties and wont affect seniority. If the postie at the top of the seniority list is not a driver they still get first pick in any re pick but obviously cannot pick a driving duty unless they are willing to start driving for RM.

The seniority list is the seniority list.
Nobody gains any seniority but if/when only driving duties were left a non-driver couldn't pick one.

But it also works the other way.
As you get down the seniority list if only floating driving duties are left a driver would have to pick one of these.
