One Van Per Person in P & L

Post by Kings Norton »

Hi Guys, just want to let you know about this going on in my office in the Manchester area. We have park and loop and the fleet of vans we have are the Peugeot vans and out of the fleet of 25 vans the warning lights are coming on shown on the dashboard as Filter Clogging, Engine Fault. What happens now is the staff go out in the vans once they get to their delivery point turn the engine off the fan stays on in the engine which then drains the battery it happened to me the first week I rang a number on the log book and was charged £4 90 for the call. The van is now dead wont start.

(So never ring that number at any time.)

I wasn’t aware the PDA could phone it but instinct is get your mobile out and ring.

Anyway week after the week the vans are still doing the same "Engine Fault" staff ringing in flat battery and nothing getting done about it.
Today a floater booted off about it as he has to get in a van nearly everyday where it saying “Engine fault” because the walk holder of this van pulls the terminals off the battery everyday so his van won’t go flat.

Floater asks today have you got a spare van he gets told none available and the reason is because one walk who has a partner on sick is using two vans on one walk they are basically doing a walk each and using a van each where the floater has to take out a faulty van. Other lads are also doing walks in a van on their own because they are doing overtime so it’s a case of the vans are priority for the overtime boys but if you have a faulty van its tough. I have told this floater see his rep get it sorted.
How can managers justify that a two vans can go on one walk where park and loop has been introduced its actually defeating the object and wasting the planners time.
Plus the fact having a van each on a park and loop is giving a massive advantage against everyone else its no wonder they are walking around the office grinning like Cheshire cats. If any area managers are out there in Manchester you need to get a grip of this that’s happening because RM are quick enough of going around to their workforce with sheets about the van and daily check ups and asking staff “Sign here, Sign there” is this happening anywhere else?

I am surprised you have any spare vans. Ours were taken away years ago and now we have to get hire vans to cover breakdowns and when they go in for service/mot. Anyway if the van has a fault light on refuse to drive it. If the van breaks down while you are on delivery use the PDA to phone for recovery then cut off.

The filter clogging is a problem with not burning off the particulates in the filter........you need to run the van for 20/30 minutes at 45/50 mph to allow it to burn off.

The engines aren't designed to be run the way we run them, running for only short periods and then stopping, it will eventually ruin the filter (which costs a bit to replace)..............of course it would be our fault.
John Watts of CAP said: “Many diesel particulate filters require specific drive cycles in order to remain working efficiently. These filters need to reach a certain operating temperature before effectively reducing particulate emissions, but if this is not achieved they can become prone to clogging.

“This problem will mostly emerge in low speed, short distance operating cycles, typically undertaken in large conurbations. This type of operating environment could become even more of a problem for future owners since operational radius tends to reduce in the secondary market.

the failure is a COMMON problem with peugeots(cant spell it)
The particulate fillter, heats up and burns off the carbon, to making it release less emmisions... but because the vans are being moved, parked, moved parked... they are NOT getting to any speed SO they cant burn off the carbon and the filters are clogging.....

the only thing to do is send them back where a computer can set the filter to burn the emmisions.
the rurals dont have the problem, because they get taken out where as towns, dont do much...

Who on earth buys a new van, then drives 10miles a day in it. at 30miles an hour?

Surely the simplest thing to do it rotate the vans round so they all go on the routes where they are going to get some proper use once a week or something.

yeah... that would be the best thing... take them out... soon as you take one out for a spin light comes off when you hit 50mph.... then comes back on next day... mine was sent for a ecu download... (total rubbish) money spinner....

needs to be rotated frequently... once problems start tho, its difficult to go... plu its sounds like a jumbo jet... when u turn engine off and it cant get particulate filter to heat up. which is whats flattening batteries in manchester...

next they replace the ecu unit... which is at least £1k...

if an ex employee for peugeot at HQ can say that these vans are no good for PARK AND LOOP... why has RM invested in them?

Probably because someone is getting a nice little backhander from Peugeot to turn a blind eye?

More likely RM where offered a deal that was too good to turn down, the vans are too small and the engine isn't right for the job, sounds like a money offer which was made without asking those on the ground would they actually work.

The deal with Peugeot is a lease agreement, they aren't even our s**t vans.
Don't know how long it lasts but ours have just gone through their first MOT.
Also recalled for a rear axle fault a couple of months ago.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

A point people is missing is why on earth are two vans allocated to one duty in park and loop because two drivers are on it? yet they give a crap van to another person which is likely to breakdown at anytime. Wonder did Peugeot sell them the PDA's as well?

It a advantage having your own van doing your own walk and some staff are not happy about it at all when they are finishing one hour before the P & L teams. Lets face it its either park and Loop or back to basics as it was.....

how can 2 vans for p&l work?

ours is fine... works well... time for delivery is 51/2 hrs. in that everything is delivered. could not do it with 2 vans... would seem pointless
