Overtime pay rates

Todays payslip looked like this

Basic pay. ###

Weekday OT1 1st 10 hours 1. ##
Weekday Overtime @SSPR 1#.##

If row 3 is the higher rate for the 1st ten hours o/t why only 1 hours odd and the other 12+ hours at SSPR?
Surely it should be 10 hours at the OT1 rate and the remainder at the lower rate? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

You have to 15 hours (take you up to 40) before you get the higher rate. Then the next 10 are higher, them anything after that is back down again. I was told its so part timers cannot earn more than full timers by doing less hours. ie we all get paid the same for the first 40 hours.

I really dont know why the Union are so so bothered about Ft staff? Why should they care if a part-timer gets paid a bit of a premium when they do OT - surely, they need the money more than the FT staff?

The only upshot of the policy is that RM/clever managers will most likely give OT to part-timers because they are cheaper; and more eager to earn more and/or please. That is why PT is and will be the future

If you have the shorter working week then the OT1 rate is already lower than the basic rate anyway. If you don't have the SWW yet then the difference is only 3p so I wouldn't get too stressed about it.

You get 25 hours plus 15 hours at normal rate to make up to 40 hours, the next 10 hours is paid at enhanced rate and then everything after that is paid at a reduced OT rate.

I do not have the exact figures, but for a PT employee doing less than FT 39 hours...
Basic pay for contracted hours is ~£9.54 per hour
The hours done above contracted until 39 hours are paid at SSPR, something ~£10.35 per hour. The extra above basic pay adds "Delivery Supplement" on a pro-rata basis for the extra hours, so a PT doing 39 hours has the same gross pay as a FT 39 hours.
For extra hours done between 39 and 49 hours, the o/t for eveyone is ~£10 per hour.
For extra hours done above 50, everyone gets ~£8.50 (and a white asylum jacket).

If o/t is not being paid over Xmas, you will not be taking out more mail than you can complete by your contract finish time (having taken paid meal relief), will you? Royal Mail is not a registered charity and we are not volunteers. I suspect that most rounds will need o/t to complete for the coming 6/7 weeks, even the normally "easy" ones.

Pay dates and payroll processes remain the same for weekly paid employees, with current week basic pay, assigned allowances and previous week’s additional hours and ad hoc adjustments paid each Friday. Due to the impact of bank / public holidays on payroll operations, the following arrangements apply:

Weekly-Paid Contracted Employees

w/c 3rd December (pay date Friday 7th December)
• Regular Pay (Basic & assigned allowances)
• Overtime / SA / Ad hoc allowances performed w/c 26th November

w/c 10th December (pay date Friday 14th December)
• Regular Pay (Basic & assigned allowances)
• Overtime / SA / Ad hoc allowances performed w/c 3rd December

w/c 17th December (pay date Friday 21st December)
• Regular Pay (Basic & assigned allowances)
• Overtime / SA / Ad hoc allowances performed w/c 10th December
• Christmas Supplement

w/c 24th December (pay date Friday 28th December)
• Regular Pay (Basic & assigned allowances)
• Overtime / SA / Ad hoc allowances performed 17th – 20th December
Note: PSP will be closed for all changes from 2.00am Friday 21st December

w/c 31st December (pay date Friday 4th January 2013)
